It's for people that find them self stuck too close to a car or wall and have no idea how to get out without scratching their car. Believe it or not for some people it's pretty common.

i see quite a few knocked down cones in this video. maybe it's not as great as advertised. imagine if a cone was another car. "oops - my car was driving and i thought it knew how to steer better than i can"

Cones lying down are for sharp turns toward the direction they’re pointing.

I think this feature is getting too much hate. A lot of people here use driving assistant features like lane keep assist, radar cruise control and nobody says that these people shouldn't be on the road. We want to make our life more easier; you can never use this thing if you want to drive by yourself. If you are all about "true driving" and against innovations stick with 20 century cars with four pedals, wooden wheels powered by steam.

People need to save that money for actual driving lesson if they need this.

Yesterday, I got a survey from BMWNA on how much I would pay/month for this feature. Answer: $0

Yeh personally I do not see any value in it. But for maybe an older customer, or just someone that is terrified of driving they might see value in it. My aunt in law has a car but does not drive it much because she is terrified of driving due to an accident some years back. For someone like this it might be an option for them. Who knows. To me though I'm fine if it's an option because I don't have to get it. But that's all good as long as they don't tie it into a package.

First reaction: what a waste of R&D, proliferation of useless tech. I too have yet to use the parking assist features on my AMG. Same way I feel about cruise control. Scourge on the highways, used by cretins who have no business being behind the wheel of a car, invariably clogging up the hammer lane while oblivious to their surroundings.

Second reaction: heard that there are emerging in Germany (at the car companies, I believe), parking garages/structures whereby drivers exit the car at the entrance to the (office) building, and the car parks itself in the garage. When you want to leave, you page the car and it meets you back where you left it. Perhaps this technology is connected to this capability.

Third reaction: See First reaction.

I-5, just the section that is in California is close to 800 miles long, cruise control comes in handy for many of us cretins along even a fraction of that stretch.

Then there's the inevitable teen texting car wreck that backs up traffic on the 405, and traffic jam assist becomes a godsend.

Will take a mea culpa on the cretin remark. Not my MO to flame people. Sorry about that.

My frustration was actually targeted to Left Lane Bandits... many of whom set their cruise controls at the speed limit and camp out in the passing lane, yack on the phone, text... everything BUT looking in their rear view mirrors and following the rules of the road. Their lollygagging -- and the passing on the right it results in -- is responsible for mayhem.

Not going off topic on LLBs, just wanted to clarify my earlier post.
