I read here 8-10% discounts on MSRP in this thread, before incentives. Do those discounts refer to orders on dealers inventory or also PCD Orders? If so, how different?

In general, the discounts refer to both. Some dealers discount inventory higher and some are the opposite. Of course there are various factors that come into play. Also keep in mind the deals posted here are the minority, the average discount is much lower.

I was told by my dealer that a discount on a PCD pick-up would be less than a car picked up at the dealer. I could have misunderstood, but sounds like they don't get the same BMW holdback money (AVP), so there's less cash available for them to discount.

Interesting... I suspected that after my experience. I asked my SA to schedule a PCD about 2 weeks after the order went in. He told me it's only available at the time I submit the order, which of course prompted obvious "Why didn't you advise me of that". He said they don't bring it up unless the customer does. Of course you don't, what could I be thinking... anyway I went directly to BMW as I've done several times for other nonsense and they hooked me up with a PCD administrator. Given my car was to be complete in a couple days, she sent sent an urgent message to the all that mattered at dealer to arrange this with me by the EOD. After a couple awkward exchanges with my SA I believe we're set. That was last week, I'll find out tomorrow if its all set up although it wouldn't surprise me if he messed this up given his attitude and track record. If it's really a money thing to the selling dealer I might not mind paying a bit more to get the PCD but perhaps it would be better to be upfront with it rather causing more more stress on my relationship with the SA/SM.

How am I doing here?

Do these discounts include incentives? Without knowing details such as money factor, etc., it's hard to fully assess, but I would say that if you are getting 11%+ off MSRP (including incentives), you're doing pretty well these days from what I have seen. The unofficial target seems to be 8-10% off MSRP BEFORE incentives, but number varies wildly by dealership, region, etc. Bottom line, you seem to be on the right track, but push for the buy rate. Good luck - G05 X5 is awesome!

On incentives, BMW seems to have a lot of cash out there. Some dealers do their best to blend this with lower dealer discounts, but have to force the dealer to split it out.

- Frequent test drive incentives ($1,000)
- Conquest or loyalty cash ($500)
- Military/USAA if qualified ($3,250)
- Corporate discounts to many large companies ($1,000)
- BMW Car Club, if you sign up early enough ($500-$1,500)
- maybe others I'm missing...

Of course not all will stack, but 'qualified' people should be getting anywhere from $4,000-$7,000 off... before dealer incentives.

Incentives have been a little light recently -especially on X5. I received the following incentives which were locked in October when I put in my credit application. Keep in mind I was leasing (incentive vary lease vs buy):

• Lease Credit: $500
• Loyalty Discount: $1,000
• OL Code Discount (attended UDE): $1,000
• Lease to Lease Credit: $500
• BMW CCA: $1,000 (received afterwards outside of the lease transaction)

This includes all incentives, I will be carrying over my MSD from my current lease which should bring the monthly down around $40-50

It is tempting to pull the trigger now but so is waiting for that extra little discount in the coming months

I guess I will hold off for now and go with my gut.

The 40i vs M50i for $200/mo difference is my real dilemma atm wouldnt consider 40i if I wasn't living in Brooklyn since I won't get to enjoy the M50i performance too often

I really wanted the M50i, but couldn't justify the cost. I live in downtown Boston and would never be able to fully enjoy the V8. The xDrv40i is very strong - I think you will be impressed with its performance. I'm coming from a '17 340i w/ M Performance Power & Sound Kit for perspective and I'm very happy with the X5. More so than I expected.

I got this 45e pricing last week in California:
Total price: $77,840
AutoNation discount: $2,900
Finance rebate: $4,500 (I got the 0.9% BMW financing)
Net price: $70,440

With down payment and trade-in the monthly will be around $950 for a purchase.

I know there are better discounts reported here, but the 45e is very hard to come by in CA, especially if you have specific options. Lots of dealers told me they don't have allocations until next month, so even if I ordered one, I wouldn't see it on the west coast until June.

The discount is SKINNY! I'd be looking at something closer to $5k-$7k off before incentives. But the market is crazy, so you may not be able to get them to budge. Is 45e still eligible for federal tax rebate? That would help. Any other incentives?

YES ! $7500 if you qualify. CA has a $1500 clean fuel rebate. And I can drive in the diamond lane which seriously helps during rush hour.

I could've gotten a better deal if I ordered something rather than something on the lot. Trust me, look for M Sport 45e's still on the lot in CA - you won't find them! Plus this one actually had the color combo i wanted to order.

That makes sense. These vehicles are certainly hard to get, let alone make deals. I'm on the east coast and I ordered in early October and took delivery (of an xDrv40i) in late November. That said, I swapped into someone else's allocation which cut the wait (long story - nothing shady, I promise).

No, many of those are not available or stackable when financing. Obviously it depends on your situation but a decent list would be:

APR Credit: $2,500
Loyalty: $1,000
Military/PenFed: $500

BMWCCA (apply after the deal): $1,000

I've seen all this talk about discounts and incentives - it's got me a little confused. I'm interested in either a 45e or a xdrive 40i in the Boston area.

A few questions:

• How do these incentives work? Is there a list somewhere of all of them or do you only know about them if the dealer tells you?
• I have a BMW now. Do I get a loyalty discount?
• My company has a corporate program which offers a $1000 discount (at least through 3/31, at which point the program will change)
• How do I negotiate? Do I negotiate a price off MSRP and then say I have a corporate program? Or do I just put everything out there and see what I can get?

1) Pays to do the research on the incentives. The list above is reasonably comprehensive... I would imagine some dealers are better than others about knowing current programs.
2) Not all incentives stack. Best to go to the dealer and say you believe you're eligible for XYZ (i.e. BMW cash, loyalty, corporate, etc.) and they will tell you what stacks.

In terms of negotiating, a few tips:
1) Be sure the dealer separates their dealer discount from all available incentives. In general they don't pay for the incentives, so don't let them wow you with what appears to be a big discount if most is coming from other sources

2) Only you can negotiate to the degree you want. What more and more people do is send an email to several (or many) dealers with the specific config you want, and see what you get, and then start going back & forth from there. Despite limited supply, people are still getting 8-10% off MSRP... PLUS available incentives. So if the MSRP is $65,000 and the dealer offers a $2,500 dealer discount, keep shopping. Typically dealers assume/hope you're going to be a poor negotiator (or scared of the process) and just take what they offer. Just need to be firm and push for more, and be prepared to go somewhere else if needed.

I'm not having much luck in AZ. 6.7% off MSRP (pre-incentives) is the best I have right now. I spoke with a broker and they got 7.5% off MSRP but with their fee it's back down to about 6.8% off MSRP.

I can get 10% off MSRP all day on east coast! I thought SoCal was supposed to be the same but no luck thus far.

Keep in mind the configuration matters too. Here in CA the 45e is king, they can't keep them on the lot for more than a week. In addition I learned they tend not to discount the M Sport vehicles as much. And I talked to one CA who said their dealership gives bonuses to CAs based on the number of cars sold. So making $$ on each car isn't as crucial.
After going thru this for 2 months now, I would view any deal as 8% or more pretty darn good, especially if you can also get the $7500 tax break on the 45e. Plus here in CA you can drive in the carpool lane - that is worth something.

Does anyone know if there is a PenFed discount for non-military folks? I am a PenFed customer, but I am not military. On the PenFed website I see a link into Truecar, but nothing more than that.
