I've had JB4 tunes in my previous BMW's and they worked great. I'm happy with the performance with my M50i so I haven't really thought about getting it now

I know there's been a lot of bad press about the Noelle Performance tune on the forum. Techmax Auto in Mississauga Ontario is now a licensed installer. I'm going to wait till my next oil change then potentially try it out. My understanding is that they have already done a couple of vehicles but I haven't seen any results published. Hoping by the time I consider getting it that there are more measured and documented examples of the performance gains. Attila is the individual there that runs the shop if any is interested.

It appears from everything I see that Racechip is only TMAP control? Maybe r33_RGSport can verify? That is pretty darn pricey for no EWG control for legit gains. It would seem JB4 has mega advantages if they are doing EWG/CANBUS/timing/fuel control. From what I have read, they are moving the EWG control along on the M550i platform, so that may be here for us soon.

BM3 says they are interested, but have no ETA. I wonder what's the state of the other flash tunes?

Yes, RaceChip is on TMAP.

By the time you are plugging more things than TMAP, might as well go to flash tune. Much2 better than 8 bit processor controlling multiple high speed sensors reading.
Also, how do you know that they use the OBD2 / CANBUS reading for timing or fuel control?
AFAIK, it is only for reading, not overriding or writing over the CANBUS signal.

Flash runs the risk of tripping the peak torque and peak load stored in the DME, stability control, and transmission module. Those hidden codes have been a problem for people trying to hide a tune. A piggy can be entirely removed if you want full transparency. We both know each have their advantages.

As far as piggy be careful making illogical arguments about what they can and cannot do. MANY of us including me have run JB4 on prior platforms throwing out huge power for a long time. On top of that, many of us have run flash and piggy on top to get to the elite levels. Reading CAN signals is a big advantage for a tune. Obviously the stock DME uses these signals to adjust, so it makes sense for tunes to utilize them as well. Realtime monitor of timing specifically is huge to avoid damaging KR events.

I am not here to start a flame war, but a TMAP piggy cannot be compared to a EWG piggy controlling boost with CAN capabilities. I am not sure JB4 is fully tested and released with their EWG N63R tunes yet, but there will be interest.

I am not arguing with you. Just giving out information.

I am not saying don't go with JB4, just saying that with that amount of sensors tapped, especially with slow processor speed that JB4 uses for years.
With that, might as well do the flash tune. Much safer compare to multiple sensor tapping with slow processor speed.

Not to derail the thread but this is total nonsense. The JB4 is capable of driving 6x 10-14 bit analog sensors more than 3000 times per second which is almost ten times faster than the vehicles computer even reads them. In addition it can also simultaneously run complex CANbus involving thousands of bytes of data per second, fuel control, wastegate control, several digital inputs and outputs some at tens of thousands of hertz, Bluetooth for the advanced app, water/meth, E85 integration, and much more.

RaceChip is comparable to the BMS Stage1 and JB+ tunes that offer analog only TMAP biasing without CANbus. For something inexpensive they offer a little bang for the buck but they can't even read the gas pedal input, can't compete with the smoothness and refinement of a JB4. For what they do though they are fine.

There is a FAQ on BMS page for customers wondering about the differences.

In regard to flash tuning it offers a few things not possible JB4 only but also leaves a permanent trace behind, so it just depends on your needs. The JB4 is designed to be fully compatible with all flash maps including the free flash maps BMS provides for JB4 customers who are willing and able to flash.

At least via Bimmercode.
Hey all. Any luck with this? I tried changing the logo and lost the cluster layout for the m50i, so the adaptive screen when changing modes is gone. Annoying! Any help is much appreciated.

Red or blue calipers on the x5 m50i? Both are available for MY21.

IMO, blue. It matches the other blue accents on the car (lazer headlights, bmw logo, etc.)

No mods yet. That is 525 to crank. I also drive wide open daily. 93 with e10 mix half and half. I was trying to be cheap the way up to Netherlands and used e10 and got 93 half way there. I did speak with Dinan and they will be coming out with a piggyback for the M50i.

Surprised it's not more, bmw usually underrates their numbers. Now if that was to the wheels that's a diff story haha
