Programming req'd for Crafted Clarity retrofit?

I was able to get a complete shifter/center console and radio with the crafted clarity crystal/glass components.

My question is can I install the new parts and have them work without and theft protection re-coding? If I swap and do need programming, will I still be able to drive the suv or should I get bmw dealer to install and program?

Is it easier (or even possible) to just swap the crystal parts to my existing components?

Has anyone done this swap? Looking for advise on how to upgrade/retrofit. Thanks!!!

I believe changing out the module requires complete reprogramming. The shifter itself is an easy switch. Once installed you have to add 4A2 to the FA and then VO code several modules to get the lights to work properly but it is easy. As far as the dial, Car Analysis sells an after market one that works with the Non clarity Module. They also make a start stop button that will work as well. Neither of the clarity versions will work on a non clarity module.

Good luck.

I believe you can just install the parts, and add FA/VO S4A2 and code the BDC ECU to have the light on the shifter turn on. There was another post on this same retrofit, but I can't find it.

Hope this helps

Armando

It was me that posted how to do it and it was more than BDC. I went down the line until I hit the ECUs beginning with I and skipped DME

I was able to get the OEM shifter coded so the X lights up.

Coded BDC and Gws2 module and voila!

Thanks to all who offered advice along the way.

The guys at https://www.codemybimmer.ca/ can code this easily for those requiring that service.

I have a question regarding the multimedia knob, arrows supposed to light up too, right? I just don't see it on the pictures attached. Very nice, though. Thinking of doing the same.

No light on the round joystick, just the buttons on the controller.

The arrows light up on the Car Analysis version available on Amazon. The OEM does not light up.

Sorry to drag this back up, Ive got an 8 series G16 gran coupe, that I would like to add the clarity controls to.

I understand that the shifter knob itself requires coding to allow the light on top to work, but do any of the other modules require coding or is it all plug and play? I have already sourced the shifter module and buttons, just looking to source the multimedia controller and would like to swap the whole lot, which I believe I need to do anyway to fit the OEM start stop button. I seemed too recall in one post a mention of the shifter itself being able to security immobilise the the car, so a replacement would need to be coded to allow the car too start, or did I mis-understand?

I don't believe coding is required. I didn't need coding for the multimedia controller or the shifter or the radio controls to function. I installed them and drove for a few weeks before having the Crystal clarity codes programmed.

i believe coding with retrofit addresses the 'X' that lights up inside the gear selector, not its function

The button not a 1 to 1 replacement. The button is a different design and requires a different console. At least it was my experience on an X5 xline.

For anyone looking to do this on their X5 or X7, beyond the "X" logo lighting up and changing from white to orange, the hill descent control may also not work. For cars equipped with air suspension, the ride height control will also not work (level will still change in Sport mode). The VO code fixes it all. I didn't want to mess with VO coding so had the dealer code for me for $300 ish.
