I actually initially was shopping for Denalis and they were all charging market adjustments anywhere from $4k-15k above MSRP so when I made the switch over to the X5 paying MSRP felt like a deal. But now I'm reading how much people have gotten off MSRP even recently and I'm a bit disappointed in myself. That said, I really wanted to order unique X5 so going with MY22 and a custom LRG one at that probably eliminated any chance of paying under MSRP anyway. At least that's what I'm going to tell myself.
If it's a custom order. You don't have to take delivery right ? Maybe someone else knows how the process is if you cancel? Maybe you lose the deposit.

You can still shop around and see what other dealership can offer you. If you can't find any better deal, least you still have one on order.

Do you mind listing the dealer here or sending it to me via PM?

I was required to give a $5k deposit because of the lime rock grey paint so I'd likely not get that back so they've got me by the balls.

No, corporate can't be combined with Military.

MY22 x40i M sport with 20" wheels in lime rock grey with executive package, driving assist, parking assist basically everything except the heated rear seats. I'm extremely anxious and excited to get it but sick to my stomach that I paid full MSRP in MD while a poster in this thread just got 7% off in MD. Not sure why this dealership was so stuck at full MSRP if discounts are still happening elsewhere. Not a ton of nearby dealerships to compare against.
Don't beat yourself up. There a lot if factors that dictate discounts beyond supply and demand. I am scheduled for production week 31 in my M50i that I ordered from a dealer in New Jersey. I paid full msrp with zero discount and put down a $2k 'non-refundable deposit'. I went through the same thought process as you after reading how others basically got theirs for 'free'. Don't worry for a moment, saving a few dollars on a $100k car is pretty immaterial. I was prepared to pay more just to get mine from my local dealer as I have bought before and use for servicing my kid's car. Look forward and enjoy!

Reasonable pricing for lease on dealer inventory

I'm looking at buying an X5 xDrive 4.0 with M-sport package, Drive Assistance and a bunch of options from a dealer who has it physically on their lot in inventory in NorCal.

MSRP is $74,485 and they have offered a discount down to $73,345, whcih on a 36 month lease with $11,000 down is $946 / month with a $39.6k residual.

Our alternative is waiting 3+ months for a custom build where we can get an 8% off MSRP discount from another dealer.

My question is, do we have any leverage in negotiating with this dealer to get a better deal (and is this a reasonable deal?) I have tried to negotiate but only got down the $1.5k. Any thoughts most appreciated!

Can you wait the three months? 8% is really good right now. Are you sure that's before incentives? Also make sure the money factor is what you expect it to be. They might discount from MSRP only to make their money back on the money factor.

No need to put $11k down, if you want to do taxes and fees that should be okay. In general, discounts are down. Tough to evaluate without all of the details but at first blush would say it is a fairy poor deal. You definitely would get a much better deal with waiting for a custom build and 8% off.

As an aside, BMW does not make a 4.0 model, it is a 40i.

Thanks TurtleBoy and YuicyYumboYack !

We are really not keen to wait 3 months, as we don't currently have a car! I guess in a way the price difference between MSRP and what this dealer is offering is about $6k, and I don't think we could rent a car for 3 months for $6k these days (and certainly not an X5!)

With that constraint, do you have any suggestions for how I might be able to negotiate a better deal on this one?

I will change it to no down payment (taxes & fees only) and figure it out from there. I think the dealer's perspective is that he can sell this car for full price, which may be right?

Thanks so much and any thoughts on how to cut a better deal on this car would be most appreciated!

I can see where you are coming from if you don't have a vehicle now. You may be able to get him down a little more but things are fairly tight now. I would say verify the numbers they are using (MF - make sure you are getting the base, RV, Fees etc.) and if you are happy with it then go for it. They payment seems really high to me with the $11k down so that makes me think they are throwing other stuff I there,

I would suggest once you have all of the details then plug them into a lease calculator to verify the payment amount they are giving you. Leasehackr has a good calculator.

Thanks again TurtleBoy !

With $11k down, Leasehakr says the monthly payments should be $827, rather than $946 the dealer is proposing (link here)

I spoke with the dealer and he said the MF is 0.00133.

Does that sound right?

(sorry for the basic questions, I have never leased a car before so very new to this!)

Talk to BMW Mountain View, you should be able to get 8%! (at least on an MY21, I am not sure about MY22)

The base MF is currently .00093 so they are marking it up.

You have the wrong MF (and possibly tax rate) in your calcs. For the .00133 MF with no tax it is $766. If you use the 9% tax rate you had in there the monthly payment would be $835.

You also had the Acq Fee being rolled into the lease rather than paying it upfront.

Thanks again TurtleBoy !

I spoke with the dealer and said basically I expect to pay the base rate.

He said it would depend on our credit. Does that sound right?

I would imagine credit could come into play for a base rate although the markup has nothing to do with credit.

You have to wait until they give you the details but it looks like they are adding quite a bit extra in fees given the disparity the payment amounts. Have them give you:

MF
RV
Fees
Taxes and/or tax rate
Monthly payment.

Since you already have the MSRP and discount, with the first four you should be able to calculate the payment to match what they give you. If it doesn't then you need to figure out why.

That's a really low discount. You should aim for atleast 5-8% giving the chip shortages etc

I have called dealers up and down the west coast, most discount I’ve been quoted on an X5 is 3% before incentives. Most in California are at Msrp Or higher

Not sure where you come up with that. Along the East Coast be very glad to get msrp from a dealer. Zero discounts. Even brokers are being squeezed on MY22's.
