X5 Delivery to Los Angeles

Any one with any recent experience on X5 orders? Website says "dispatched from factory" and just wondering what might be the approximate delivery time to dealer? I think any pre-pandemic experience would not really give me a decent sense of the timing.

From what I've been reading/hearing on these forums, it takes 2-3 weeks for the West Coast. Mine was just "dispatched from factory" yesterday as well so our X5s could very well be traveling together.

Not sure if this helps, I'm in the Bay Area and mine left the factory on 9/10, and made it to my dealer on 9/29...picking it up tomorrow!

It helps me! Also in the bay area and looking at a production date about 1 month behind you so hopefully I get the same timeline!

My X5 was shipped to the freight train station in San Bernardino. Then, it sat there and waited for a truck for 3 days. Talk to a human at BMW Genius. They are very accurate regarding the days.

status on BMW site just updated to "in transit" so am guessing it's a week or so away from dealer at most...stay tuned

def exciting

can't wait to see it for real - I opted for Carbon Black Metallic with the White Vernasaca Leather interior...it should be gorgeous (despite being a bit of a bitch to maintain white interiors eh)

Keeping that black exterior clean won't be any picnic either

It'll be a stunning combo but you sure haven't made it easy on yourself!

My cousin wants to order and x5m, do you think based on what you've seen if he should have it in Los Angeles in 90 days? Or longer

This is my first time ordering a BMW, but not my first time ordering a car (prev one was an Audi). In both cases, the dealer said it would about 3 months. I got my Audi during that timeframe, and looks like the X5 will also get here during the original estimated timeframe. Others who have more experience ordering BMWs can maybe give you a better answer, but all I can say is ask your local dealers since it would be dependent on their allocations.

It's 100% dependent on the allocation (denoted by a production number) his dealer has, i.e., what production week is the allocation scheduled for?

Once he knows the production number's production week, then he can add to it this rough timeline:

Order received Thu, 7/29
Production begins Wed, 8/11 (<- your cousin's production number's production week)
Assembly in progress Fri, 8/20
Quality check Sat, 8/21
Awaiting carrier assignment Mon, 8/23
Dispatched from factory Tue, 8/24
In transit Mon, 8/30
At the dealership Tue, 9/14
Vehicle delivered Thu, 9/16

no production number = no order

Sometime you get lucky and a dealer has a production number about to go into production next week - in that case, you can get the car fast.

On the other hand some dealers will take a customer's "order" but just hang onto it, not submit it to the factory, because they don't have an allocation (or one they want to give to the customer because they got a better offer). In that case who knows when the car will be delivered.

So the key is: (1.) Ask if the dealer has an allocation, (2.) Get the production number, (3.) Get the production week. Once you have that, you can guesstimate the timeline based on the sample above.

Called BMW Genius and my vehicle will be at the processing center by tomorrow and within 2 -3 days they will have a firm delivery date. Guessing we are looking at a week or so and it's ready for me. Don't know why they can't just provide this much detail in the Garage but oh well...exciting!

Sounds like you're hitting the predicted 2-3 weeks - mine just flipped to "dispatched" so I'm hoping for the same timing!

Assuming car makes it to dealer this week. From time I placed order around mid-Sep it's been about 7 weeks in total. If car shows up next week then we go to 8. My guy got a production # within a week of my placing the order but likely they already had the allocation lined up for me as we started talking about my lease end options as early as July of this year.
