What Idrive update should I be asking for now?

I know there's a bunch a threads asking similar questions but they seem to be region specific. My 2019 G05 is in for maintenance and a warranty paint issue. My last IDrive update was a while ago. I am in New Jersey in the USA. What Idrive version should I be asking for?

Thanks for the help

Paladin1 recently had 7/2020.54 installed, I think that is the newest I have seen.

I was updated to 7/2020.60 on Friday when I went in for service and they replaced my steering column for that problem where it didn't retract.

An interesting progression - spouse's car was updated 2 or 3 weeks ago to 7/2020.45, mine was updated to 7/2020.54 a week or so past, and now we're up to 7/2020.60. That's pretty speedy in the world of software.

I don't think New Jersey specifically gets any updates, sorry, but the rest of the world gets the same version at the same time ... if we're talking about dealer software updates (true) and if we assume all dealers are equally competent (false). OTA updates regionality currently appears to be random-ish, with UK often in the beta-test lead for those.

Latest version on 07/2020.xx branch in the wild is already noted in other posts. But, 11/2020.xx ought to be out within a week or two, so depending on your exact appointment date and wether you want to bleed on the edge, you should be asking for that.

Yeah I saw that. I am hoping that my car stays with the dealer for a while since It's going back to paint for a paint bubble defect on the trunk door. If it says 2 weeks or so maybe I'll get the November update.

Yes. But OTA updates are much delayed relative to real-time software releases by BMW to dealers. Lots of threads about it.

Additionally, OTA updates are always one I-Step behind dealer updates according to BMW. So the absolute latest update is always the dealer update. Meaning an OTA will include the latest iDrive software, but the previous stable I-Step to minimize issues.

Evidently they have altered that a bit since they decided to skip 03/2020.xx and are going right to 07/2020.xx. There was some discussion that Europe is starting to receive it already.

I don't think they have. The OTA can include an I-Step, but it won't be the latest I-Step. So even the July Update OTA would have some older I-Step. Whatever version BMW deemed the "last" for their OTA purposes.

You can read all the details in their SIB from August.

Maybe I missed it or am misunderstanding but didn't see anything in there saying they aren't doing what others have reported. I guess we will see how it plays out.

That's old. There are much newer SIB indicating 07/2020 will be delivered OTA this month.

This post, for a G20, indicates it has dropped on some cars already: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=861

Just got my car back from it's first service. Dealer updated iDrive to 07/2020.60. All my coding was lost, so I'll be doing that later on today or this weekend.
