UK Autoglym paint protection via BMW
Hi
My new X5 G05 is been sold to me with the dealers Autoglym paint protection and interior protection applied (circa £400). Is it worth it or should I say I'm not interested. I look after my cars and will clean bi-weekly with the odd professional detail thrown in so I'm tempted to remove the Autoglym paint protection and save myself £400. Advise & opinions welcome. |

Thats exactly what I did. For £400 quid you get some random bloke paid £2k/h slapping products on your new car without proper inspection. I'd much rather spend the money on someone reputable, or do it myself!
I've barely exaggerating the price BTW, a Sytner guy told me the people cleaning your car on their parking lot/garage is paid £2.5 per car!

Depends how much risk your'e willing to take.
My M2 had it applied and it was spotless. 1 year on and the finish was still perfect, albeit with regular washes and top-ups. Others have suffered horror stories where the cars have had the protection applied on top of swirls, requiring a wet sands and machine polish to restore. Also depends on your tolerance for these things. In my opinion, if I'm paying £60k+ for a car, I'd want it spotless. Therefore I'm dropping it from mine and having it detailed professionally with ceramic coating. Albeit for double that price and some. |

You'll get a much better job from an professional detailer for about £150 -£200. The main dealers just slap it on with no prep. I did get mine done by the supplying dealer, Coopers Teeside but it was free. On my two F15s I bought did it myself.

I would put the money into a "proper" detail. I went with Revolution Detailing near Bristol and got GTechniq Crystal Serum Ultra and Exo (5 year guarantee), Wheels done with C5 and Glass done with G1.
Came in at just under £1,000 and will be way more than twice as good as Autoglym |

Personally, as above, I want the dealer touching my paint as little as possible. I'd rather they give it me as it left the factory and I can then get it to whatever standard I require with my own choice of detailer or DIY.
Also, its a margin add on for them, like their GAP, which means you can get whatever they are offering for much less money and probably a better product & application too. |

Its the safest way right? I can only imagine how angry I would be if my brand new car came complete with dealer induced marks/swirls/holograms. If it comes naked and I mess it up (which is less likely), I can live with that.

Get a proper detailer to do it and save the 400 quid. A pro will do a decent machine polish and wax with better products for less than that. Or spend double and get a quality detailing done including ceramic code and paint correction.

I assume you had a detailed work on the car almost immediately in that case or was it that you just wanted to remove the protection yourself so that you knew the paint was protected?
