With the key card, you're missing that impressive lump in your pocket that says you're happy to see your X5 . Also, you're missing replacing your expensive key fob for hundreds after jumping in the pool with it. Also that sinking feeling that your wife just drove away with the key fob (since it is countered by an uprising realization you still have your wallet).

The advantage that you don't need to bring your key fob with you. You can carry the key card in your wallet or wherever you carry your credit cards. Or you can give it to a parking valet instead of your fob.

Or it's can be used as a backup for an NFC smartphone, which also eliminates the need to carry your fob.

For some though it won't be much of an advantage...

Well.... maybe it has some advantages after all, could be useful in some circumstances
