Calipers - Paint or Powder Coat

We got the 50i M sport but we didn’t get the colored calipers. I looked at the size of the calipers between ours and the colored on the lot. The calipers do appear to be the same size and both large. We have the 22 inch staggered with PZero non run flats.

I can’t get an answer from the service tech. The caliper size does not look different. I am thinking of having the calipers painted or powder coated to match and typically I think most shops have the M stamp. I only know this because I was going to change the caliper color on a different car. I wanted to find out if there was any difference in the caliper option vs the caliper on the build that I can’t tell with the naked eye. They both look to be the same size one painted one not. Does anyone know if the M Sport package calipers are any different other than the paint? A $650 option doesn’t seem like there would be a mechanical difference. Thoughts? I can find a good painter or powder coated but more tempted to have them painted so they don’t go into the ovens.

The coloured callipers come only with the optional M Sport brakes, which do not appear to be part of the M Sport package in the US. They must be ordered separately. According to the technical training guides (see sticky threads), there are 3 different brake setups for the G05. Your car would appear to have the first upgrade, which are very close to the full M Sport, but marginally smaller disc size (and not painted).

The M-Sport brakes are completely different and larger in the front. You can paint the calipers but they still wont look the same. My advise would be to swap out your brakes for the larger M-Sport brakes front and rear.

There is another thread on this topic with pics. Side by side the size difference is very noticeable.

They are different. I'm probably the only one that prefers the stealth silver non-Sport brakes. The Sport brakes bite a little harder but for an M brake they're still soft to me. I'm not driving this X5 like my previous M cars anyway. I'd want more from them so I went with the softer stock brakes, they're fine and I quite like the stealthy look.

Your discs are bigger too in conjunction with the calipers. I don't know why people are so opposed to better brakes

At a $650 up charge for M brakes, that is so cheap there is no reason to not get them at any price point let alone at $75K+. What I found is a lot of dealers when ordering their inventory completely missed the option much like ACC. It was BMW’s confusing ordering procedure. Most thought the “M Brakes” would come with the “M-Sport” package. Seems logical like a $85k BMW would come standard with ACC yet we have a few members sick on their drive home to find they missed it.

I agree since the brakes actually help keep you safe. Other things such as Crystal accents or acoustic glass are nice no question add ons in a different way. I would hope dealership would know what comes on each vehicle they order...

Agree x2, found it odd that you can get the M Sport package without the M brakes in the US. That's a big miss for people who didn't notice. In Canada they come together. That said, the US lets you order the M brakes on the X-Line, which we can't do here. My M Sport, M Brake, Carbon Black 40i is officially on order. Can't wait!

Yeh well the ACC is the next item. I may invest in the M Sport brake swap. I want to wait and see what the drawbacks are on the sport brakes (replacement cost). I would more likely spend the money on the ACC add first. I have all the cameras just not sure why that wasn’t on the car but would be interested to see if any tech guys on here know what will need to be swapped on that. Brakes and Calipers will be very pricey and would be more likely to invest in the ACC add if it is even possible.

What's your full build? I promise the $650 price is much cheaper than a retrofit.
