Steering 50i vs 40i

My 50i has suffered from the cold weather steering problem that a number of people have had. I’ve also noticed the steering is fairly stiff all the time and not as nimble as I would like.

Today I took the 50i in for service (other issues) and I was given a 40i loaner. Night and day difference between the two. Have others noticed a difference in the steering between the two?

My 50i is MSport and the 40i loaner is not.

Thanks

50i is much stiffer and takes more muscle to turn. It is also more sensitive to adjustments.

40i reminds me of the F15 steering except it’s a tad more accurate.

Does your 50i or the loaner 40i have integral active steering?

50i also has 300-400lbs more over the fron/reart axles so there's more to move. Most of this is from the V8 up front so it'll feel much heavier.

I have the loose steering issue in my 4.0 - don't think it's weather related, as it's happening even when 65 degrees out.

Only way to describe it is that it eels as if the wheels aren't aligned and/or some part of the suspension/drivetrain is loose.

Too many issues and I’ve bought a lot of BMWs. Height sensor went bad, Drivers Assistance errors that can’t be fixed, steering problems, and a leaking AC system that was already almost out of coolant. At 2.5 weeks since purchase enough was enough. Dealer and BMW have been great, but again, I’ve bought a lot of BMWs.
sorry to hear that, so what are you getting to replace it?

Another X5 that is a newer build. Bad one was a 11/18 build. Love the G05 X5, outstanding vehicle. Still highly recommend it.
When's your new build scheduled for?
