The only reason my CA did it was because I bought the car from him. Normally salespeople don't set these sorts of things up. I recommend getting with your dealers' service dept and having them set up a pin.

Is the Key Card worth it?
Wanted to know what everyones experiences are with the Key Card? When I took delivery of my 2019 X5 the Key Card wasn't available yet and I am considering ordering it but want to know if it really is worth the $50.

It won't work with my phone but I'm going to carry it as a spare key. I didn't pay for mine but I'd probably be willing to spend $50, the cost of a couple decent dinners.

I've said this 100x now, it's because Samsung uses an eSE (embeded secure element) as part of Samsung Pay while most OEMs use only software. Having a dedicated hardware secure element is the only reason why I can see BMW only letting it work on Samsung phones starting with the S8 which use Gemaltos eSE.

Finally got my digital key
Hi,
I finally got my digital key to work. Most issues was due to security rights at my dealer who needed clearance from BMW Hq to issue new keys. After that was sorted my sales rep activated my key and I only needed to activate and follow the guide in the app. Have a Samsung S10 and it worked immediately. I will only use that key as a spare. Happy something it related seem to work |

Verizon Galaxy S9+ Digital Key kinda
I bought my Samsung Galaxy S9+ directly from Samsung last year then activated it on Verizon. I was told the digital key would not work with my phone because Verizon was blocking the NFC communications for BMW digital keys. I asked the dealers service department to go ahead and help me set up the phone key anyways wondering if a direct from Samsung phone purchase vs Verizon might work. Once it was set up in the dealers "ConnectedDrive Service Cockpit" I logged out of the BMW connected app on my phone and re-logged in and was prompted to download the digital key then was after a number of attempts was finally able to pair it with car. It starts the car but will not unlock the doors..I can unlock the doors through the app, but that requires a little more time and patience as the command is sent from the app and then communicated with the car, takes about 20 seconds. So kinda halfway there, so for now I'm keeping my key with me and have the digital key as a backup. On SW version 03/2019.30
4/29/2019: I traded in the Galaxy S9+ and purchased an unlocked Galaxy S10+ directly from Samsung - then installed a Verizon SIM card. Now the digital key on the phone opens the door and starts the car using the NFC capabilities alone, BTW it not necessary to leave the phone in the tray after starting it Last edited by ddelX52019G05; 04-29-2019 at 02:55 PM.. Picked up new X5 yesterday and I found the Key Card in the manual. I tried going into Car-->Door Settings in iDrive but Digital Key option does not show up so that I can pair it with the car. Has anyone else not had the option show up in the menu? I did login with my Connected account in the car.

Yes, I do. I was reading conflicting info on how this is supposed to be setup. Was the dealer supposed to set this up when I picked up the car? They didn't tell me anything about it. I found the cars in the manual and followed the instructions online but unfortunately the option doesn't show up in the menu.

Some dealers set it up but I, like many folks, set up their own. Not sure why you wouldn't have that option, you are logged into a profile and not using Guest, right?

Yes, I am logged into my profile, everything else works (connected app, carplay)...Not a huge deal but it would be nice to be able to use the keycard when I go running and have it with me instead of the actual key. I'll give BMW a call tomorrow and see what they say.
