If your car didn't come with one or you would like a second one here is what to do:

- Head to your BMW dealership and bring a copy of your registration and Driver's license as proof of ownership.

- You will need to order part number: 61 35 9 436 659 $52.92 MSRP

- When it comes in you need to place it on the NFC/WC tray to activate.

Was there any Sales advisory on how the NFC cards are being handled for early production orders where it wasn't available during delivery?

Or is it discretionary for your CA to order you one for those who never received one?

There is no bulletin on this, my understanding is that it was rolling change that X5 got after certain production dates. This isn't out of the norm. The X1, for example, went from having 1 USB to 4 sometime in the middle of the MY18 production.

I went into the dealer... they wouldn't just give me one gratis. Ordered it (I'm the first one who has as they had to add it to the system) and they'll call me when it comes in. $49 plus tax

I love the X5 and will most likely get another one in the future. These cards should be given to us complimentary considering all the money we paid. Charging $50 in my opinion is another insult. I won’t be getting one.

I agree but my CA sucks... he really doesn't seem to care all that much. I need to find a better one next time.

Where did you read/hear that?

From the Manual:

Key card
The vehicle is delivered with a key card. The key card can be used in the same way as a compatible smartphone with a digital key.
This key card may not be available. Contact your authorized dealer’s service center or another qualified service center as to whether this additional function is currently in your vehicle or when it can be installed in your vehicle in the future.

A digital key that has already been paired with the vehicle is installed on the key card. The digital key must be activated via iDrive.

When you exit the vehicle, take the key card with you, as it can be used to start the vehicle.

Activate BMW Digital Key
The vehicle owner must present proof of authorization for his vehicle at the service center to be able to use BMW Digital Key.
The vehicle owner configures a digital key code at the service center to be able to enable additional digital keys at a later time.

Yes any dealership can order it as long as you supply the necessary paperwork.

My genius told me that the key card is useless if you have an Iphone, and that it only works if you have a certain type of Android phone. Truth?

Two different things. Digital key allows some android phones to be used as the vehicle key. iPhones are currently not compatible, but are supposedly going to be added in the future.

The key card talked about in this thread is credit card sized and works as an independent, additional key for the vehicle.

Got it. I was actually referring to the credit card sized item, but sounds like my genius is conflating the two items/issues.

So the credit card key does not need to be matched with an android to be able to start and unlock the vehicle? I just needs to be programmed by placing it on the NFC pad/wireless pad?
