bmwusa build tool is no longer showing laser light as an option on the X7. Executive package has been removed as an option (where laser light was previously included) and glass controls + led skylounge roof now are only available as standalone options.
I bet you the same is happening to X5 until issue is resolved |

My week 10 build had been pushed to week 12, but my CA let me know it got put back into week 10 and has entered production today. My Garage site shows the same as of this morning. He didn’t know anything about the Laser Light issue and my build doesn’t show any changes or credits.

Went to the car show in Geneva. Spoke to the reps from BMW. They did not hear any delays concerning laser lights or 3rd rows. Did get to see the 45e (September release).
Edit. Seats were not wrinkly on either the x5 or x7 Last edited by Nycswiss; 03-06-2019 at 01:47 PM.. Reason: Adding info |

Spoke to a Genius over the phone to inquire about my week 18 build with third row and laser lights. For what it's worth, he acknowledge the shortage on the laser lights and says that my order was not affected as this mainly affects the X7 production.

For what it's worth, I found a comment on the X7 forum that suggests that the problem is largely with the x7 (I guess the parts are slightly different) Additionally another comment says and that it does not impact orders already submitted (with respect to x7 specifically) You never know how accurate these things are but here's the quote:
I checked with my bmw saleman today. I got my production number assigned on Dec 11th. He said: “Dustin, our regional rep tells me that production has accounted for customer vehicles already on order, the elimination of ZPX and shortage of ZMP is for future orders“. |

All-- After seeing this post, and having just signed/approved my order yesterday for a new X5, I contacted my SA at the fantastic Medford BMW (Oregon USA). He replied super quick with the following:
"Joe....I had Tim [the BMW Genius] check on this and from the information he received this only applies to Canadian X5s." Sorry to our Canadian brothers! |

Sure it does -- the parts are not interchangeable. So a problem with X7 parts availability has no impact on the X5.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Either way, I am not ordering an X7 so to be blunt, I don't really care. I'm not gonna stress over a vehicle I have no intention of ever buying.

As I said above it cannot be ordered for US X7 as well. My point was if Canada X5 and US X7(for now) cannot have laser headlights, the underlying reason cannot be Canada's regulation. Shortage of parts (not the overall headlight casing but the laser beam inserts) seems more plausible.

Placed my US X5 order on Feb 18th, slated for delivery around end of next week.
Discussed with my CA today and heard that my order including laser lights is not affected by this. Just one more data point to add to this as we learn more. |

My understanding is vehicles entered into production prior to this week were not impacted by the shortage of lights. I think if you've ordered a car that's going into production this week you'd want your dealer to double check and be certain. It would be a bummer if the dealer SA missed the memo, ordered the X5 and it arrived without Laser Lights. It wouldn't hurt to get them to look into it for certainty. My dealership called to see if mine was impacted and no it wasn't. Other Canadian buyers did get a call advising of the laser light issue and the credit.
