Clear Plex Windshield PPF installed - protection activated!

Got the clear-plex windshield protection installed after the Xpel front ppf to be totally protected from the brutal roads.

Results: Clear, same clear view in normal or rain driving, and undetectable. Peace of mind knowing that windshield imperfections & rock chips are not going to occur.

Maintenance:
Came with a bottle of “clear x” to apply once a month after a clean wash and wipe off. Totally doable. Also, don’t dry run wipers whne your car is dirty. Basically, running the wipers without fluid or wet windshield.

Recommend: If you haven’t done this and want to keep your windshield crystal clear - highly recommended. Cost was 350 bones.

What's your deductible for a new windshield? This film isn't going to effective if the rock is big enough and/or you're going fast right?

Sorry, title should say Clear-Plex not Xpel

The title should be Clear-plex, it’s pre-cut with similar protection as the xpel ppf see attachment.

Deductible is 1k, i want my windshield to stay crystal clear and protected.

Think of it as a screen protector for a phone but legally “bigger”. It won’t stop your phone from shattering but it will do a good job trying to protect it.

Very interesting. I'm curious. Is this a hard sheet like a glass screen protector or a soft film that rolls on?

I'd rather pay my $200 deductible for a new windshield any day of the week than worry about messing up a $1500 film

your comprehensive is $1k??? why?

It’s cost 350.00 for the clear plex

If have a 2nd car with 50k miles with ppf on the headlights and hood and they still look perfect. The windshield isn’t protected and has tiny pits from highway commutes. Putting in a claim and time would cost me more + a higher renewal premium because of the claim.

If i can prevent all that for 350...it’s a no brainer and bargain. I’d rather not fiddle with it down the road. I’ll keep my beauty look’n new.

I had 'clear' UV XPEL film applied on the inside of windshield, it was $150, I think. For extra $200, I would have done this, if I had known it was an option.

I agree - the tiny 'pitting' over time is really annoying. In particular, my commute is due east in morning and due west in evening, so ALL those microscopic dings show up!

I have full frontal PPF and even when done expertly rock chips will show on the film from experience. I'd rather have a new windshield than a nasty film over my windshield which can still get damaged and that requires special care unlike PPF

MA, zero deductible on the windshield and will cover one per year, so cheaper option in this area to just get a new windshield.

I’m not going to lie, but having 400 miles on the car showed the headlight lens were the worst at imperfections. Just about “anything” that hits them leaves a forever lasting mark. The windshield and bumper were a tie and if you want to protect it a bit more you should consider going ppf on the lens at the minimum and ppf a bit more to go balls deep.

Personally, this is my first bmw and the paint is paper thin vs my other cars. Sadly, Seems like anything that hits the paint of the car will suffer a noticeable chip. The shop i visited had some cool exotic cars and some even 350k sticker so windshield and ppf is normal. Took a snap of this monster.

Honestly, If i was leasing i wouldn’t give 2chits about any of this.

Florida Statute 627.7288 requires auto insurers in Florida to replace or repair their policy holders damaged windshield with zero deductible, or, in other words, for “free.”

I can get small things fixed with Safelite for free but a replacement goes under my comprehensive. There's no such mandate in Texas although there should be

My Dad had this installed on his Aston Martin windshield a few years ago and its held up perfectly - no rock chips, cracks or scratches. The Xpel on the hood however shows some marks from flying rocks.

Keep in mind, some folks rather not burn “time” with some things. Logically, spending 350 out of the the gates to prevent the hassle is worth it. Same concept form PPF or body PPF. Personally, preserving the new car look is my choice after spending my coin. I’ve gone down the road of claims and they come back to raise your rates during renewals so let’s not leave out the obvious. Insurance aren’t around to replace windshields for nothing, they are in business to make money and never to lose.

It’s just me, you may not. It’s choice and time. My time is worth it. I pay extra for my options.

Cheers

First of all it doesn't take that long to replace a windshield. I am 110% for PPF but the similar application on a windshield is more cumbersome and prone to accidental damage. Yes I understand if you can't spare an hour or two for a replacement to get installed but that's life. If the windshield film could truly be used like glass I'd get one on mine. Not being able to use your wipers if it's not super wet is a deal breaker. We have bugs and all kinds of fun stuff that gets stuck on them during the summer so they would scratch the film if I removed them with proper cleaner.

Let me be clear, tour insurance rates will not go up (or should not) unless there are other factors for a comprehensive claim. My Audi was totaled to the tune of $77k under my comprehensive coverage and my rates went down. I have USAA and I asked them how many claims in 12 months it would take to raise my rates. Guess what the answer was, 14 ore more!! I've had several comprehensive claims in a year and my rates were unaffected. Maybe your insurance is different, I can't speak on their behalf

It’s all about the time you want to put into it. You can use it your wipers if you have pollen build up, that’s not going to kill them (done it). The installer said don’t run your wipers dry for long periods of your car is caked in dirt. I will relay the wife to look into USSA. I just don’t have time :-) , thx!

USAA is only for veterans or family of military personnel so it's not for everyone.

To be clear I don't have an issue with windshield protection, only products that limit your normal ability to use things like the wipers.
