Any open pore wood trim care issues?

I like the look of the open pore wood trim, but I’m wondering how it is to care for in the long term

Will greasy fingers (think French fry’s) leave spots that are hard to clean later?

Just wondering how the non-glossy trim has held up for folks over the long haul in the real world.

Thanks!

I’d be less worried about finger prints and more worried about scratches. They don’t hide as easily in open-pore wood as they do in glossy. Good luck with your decision!

That’s an interesting point. Intuitively, I’d say the exact opposite would be true

The glossy coating is basically an epoxy layer that's hard as heck. It protects it a lot better than the nothing that protects the open pore wood

My experience with other open pore woods is that they suck up basically anything. Water, grease, child snot, and then discolor.

In my car I have the standard trim - I guess it’s called fine line something. Had it also in my 7 series prior to the X5. It’s something I don’t really notice at all - so no complaints

Oh, maybe one - it’s way too glossy

I have similar open pore trim in my 2018 Audi A6 and it’s held up fine. Obviously could be different from current BMW implementation, but I don’t think I’d stress over it. We ordered it in our 50e that is on the way…

I have open pore on my '22, no issues at all.

It’s open pore but it’s not unfinished like a piece of raw wood. I haven’t spilled anything on it but fingerprints are less obvious than on a glossy surface and they wipe off easily. I don’t foresee any issues with it. If you want extra protection you could add a wax coat like Rubio to it but I’m not sure how well that would adhere since the trim already has a finish and Rubio usually goes on raw wood.

I have open pore in my 23, very happy with it. Had the fine line a while back and the piano black before that. Piano scratches the easiest, fine line held up well. Open pore looks good with my cognac interior. No scratches or issues. All good choices.
