I just received my 2021 X5 from the BMW military sales in Korea. I'm a contractor and located in Korea for my job. I knew getting the car my navigation wouldn't work, but my car acts like Apple CarPlay isn't even installed. I found a video showing how to connect to CarPlay on my phone, which says it's connected but there isn't the ability to connect CarPlay in idrive. See the 1:30 mark in the video. Trying the "Hey BMW" function, and saying "Apple CarPlay " the car says that function isn't available. Is this due to the car being outside the US or is there another alternative to get CarPlay to work?

Stupid question, but did you pay for the subscription? It's like 300€+ here.

After purchasing the subscription I spent 45 minutes trying to get it work only to find it way worse than Bmw's own system.

Forgive a couple of daft questions.

For CarPlay, your car needs these two, I believe standard, options. Does your build have these listed?

6C4 Connected Package Professional
6NW Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging

In the BMW Connected portal, do you see "Apple CarPlay Preparation" listed as "Booked"? (There's no subscription fee any longer.)

Even before they made it subscription free all new G05 came with a year at least free so it should have been supported from the off.
In i drive on the phone set up there should be an option to connect via BMW or car play?

Hi,

I just purchased X5 in Korea as well and I am having the same issues with Carplay. Did you ever get it figured out? If so could you help me?

I had this problem happen to me recently and my buddy at service told me to do this and it fixed the problem

-Power on but engine off
-Push and hold the radio power button and hold it for 2 full resets (Should be holding it for about 1.5 minutes)

Should reboot itself and problem fixed

Thanks for the info, I will give this a try. I've reached out to BimmerTech and they were going to charge me $600 for the coding so if there's any other options I'm down for trying.

Noting that your post is a lot newer than the OP…. Your issue may be that the car doesn’t have CarPlay due to to the semiconductor shortage. My X5 (delivered end March 22) did not come with CarPlay because one of the chips was swopped by BMW for a different one due to shortages. That chip didnt support wireless CarPlay. The problem has now been fixed here, by 1. A visit to the dealer for a software upgrade and 2. Over the air update post the software upgrade.

The solution was only implemented in the UK at least at the end of May. There’s a few other posts on this forum about it. Could be the problem you are having?
