It's got an 8 speed automatic if the whole "same powertrain as F80 M5" thing holds.

I also don't see what sense it makes to give a truck DCT and not the sedan.

Yeah, I thought they were going with a new chassis so soon since the F15/F85 weren't huge changes from the E70 design. The body definitely looks very different, but I thought a whole new engine would come. Loading up the tech is nice though. The truck has camo on, but it doesn't look aggressive at all...very bubbly and fat, no tight lines...I'm sure the front end will look super aggressive in the end.

Other than the E6X and E9X with the S85/65, what is there to miss?

The S62, S50, S54 and even the S14 were all great motors.

The S62, S50, S54 and even the S14 were all great motors.
And all based on mass market production engines used over many years.

But each of those had a lot more separation from the N series motor. And each new chassis got its own, new motor.

They are probably just testing the power train using the body of the regular X5. You'll notice no M mirrors either. Its not due out till sometime in 2019 so plenty of time.

Just said it to rile up the dct fanatics.

Isn't there an X7 coming out? Maybe an X7M in the works. I've never had to worry about needing 7 seats, but understand the aggravation that the standard truck offers 7 seats, but the M doesn't.

more like X3

this looks more like an X3M than an X5M, the next X5M is about 2 years away, and this one looks almost ready to go, but I could be wrong what do you guys think?

The current X5M has an 8 speed auto.

Wasn't the DCT comment a joke because of the furor over the M5 switching from DCT to the ZF8?

Spied: 2019 BMW X5 M Coming Fast With 600 Horses

Quote:
BMW took the 2019 X5 M for some testing at its Nurburgring facilities and our spies were there to capture the moment.

The new Bavarian Super-SUV is going to be based on BMW’s CLAR platform, which will make the new X5 M lighter and more agile.

Power will come from a twin-turbo V8 and more specifically from the 4.4-liter unit that also powers the upcoming M5, with the final figures expected to be over 600hp.

Compared to other prototype X5s, this one wears a pair of more aggressive bumpers with larger air intakes under the camo wrap, has a quad-exhaust setup and features a beefier set of brakes with blue calipers.

The whole shape of the new-generation X5 will remain familiar as expected, with BMW adopting the new styling features of the fresh X3, including the more sculpted front end and a bigger kidney grille. Expect the new X5 to also offer all the latest features, including semi-autonomous capability and gesture-control infotainment systems.

The future Cayenne Turbo rival is expected to hit the market in late 2018, with production to take place at BMW’s Spartanburg factory.
