Would a OTA updated wipe a ECU Remap?

As the thread title, hypothetical question, would a OTA updated wipe a ECU Remap?

It did wipe the Control Units HKFM2, HU_MGU, KOMBI, etc. For over a year never had a OTA download available for my X5. Popped into the dealer for a warranty trim piece replacement and forgot the M style instrument cluster display (coded using bimmercode). A few hours later got a notification from BMWConnected App that I have a new Remote Software Upgrade waiting. Selected update before realizing that the update is older than the version currently installed. Called BMW Guru to see how to disable the download and was assured that it will not install because the system will first validate the version and will error out. Trusting the “Guru” advice proceeded to upgrade the software. Shocker - not only did the OTA software upgrade overrode the newer version, it wiped out all coding...

Something doesn't seem correct with your scenario. Besides the vehicle not doing an OTA to a previous version you can't update the vehicle from the Connected App, you need to be in your vehicle to start the update. More than likely your dealer did an install.

All updates will wipe out coding but have not heard it will effect an ECU remap.

Update downloads to your Connected App on your phone and then pushed to your car. As you can see it competed successfully. Your going to have to take my word on the version backlevel.

That is not the whole process. You can not update the vehicle from the app. Once the update file is transferred to the vehicle you need to start the actual update from inside the X5. If you didn't start it then someone at the dealership probably did. Below are some pictures members took from the process.

It is highly unlikely that you went backwards but it really doesn't matter to the original discussion.

In mu case it did not wipe all coding. OTA from 11/2019.55 to 11/2019.70 wiped my coding for default adaptive, VIM and 5 times turn signal, but my M cluster, M logo on startup, ASS, tyre temp stayed. All were done with BimmerCode.
ECU was not coded, so don't know what it would do to it.

Yes. Heard from someone who had his car chiptuned he lost the ECU remap after an OTA update. A professional chiptuning company also confirmed ECU remaps can be lost with an OTA update.

How do we stop the OTA updates in that case?

Don't accept them. You're given the option to proceed with the OTA.
