45e deals?

Has anyone been able to negotiate any deals on a 45e in the USA? What type of % off are you getting?

I negotiated 4.8% off MSRP. I suspect larger discounts will be available after these start showing up on dealer lots. My 45e order was placed 6/20, a few days after the configurator went live. Still not showing any activity on its production schedule.

Which dealership? I am from Northern California and will have no problems driving to a dealership that is willing to offer some discount.

Thanks!

I have an offer of 9% in NJ, but it's unclear if they want to pass on the full $7,500 federal EV credit or not. If they don't, it's obviously not such a great deal.

If you are leasing then you do not get any of the credit, that goes to BMW Financial.

As an aside, 9% off a 45e, or any X5, in these times is a very good deal. Inventory will be very low for the next few months so discounts have been lowered.

Hello!

I am a long time BMW owner, but have always leased. I took a new job and will be driving a lot more.

I am going to be purchasing a X5 45e, and I was hoping people had suggestions for dealerships with the best discounts and prices. I always leased from NY dealers and had the car shipped, but I want the best price since I will purchase. Does any one have recommendations?

I understand the credit goes to BMW, but most (or all) manufacturers typically pass this credit on to the customer. The spirit of the credit is to incentivize the public to get into more hybrid and BEV cars, not to further enrich dealers or manufacturers. Of course, the door is open for dealers to abuse this and keep it, but that won't exactly help drive sales. Even Tesla, for all their brand cache and immovable pricing, passes the credits on to the customer without conversation. I know because I have one, it's not just conjecture. My wife has also had plug-in hybrids from Toyota and Ford and it's never been an issue. I haven't pressed the issue yet because there is no program yet for the 45e from BMW and I'm in no rush, and I live in NY and won't get the NY credit if I get it from a dealer in NJ.

too soon to get good deals. even $3000 off MSRP doesn't apply to 45e now.
I would think closer to december it will be buyers market

For a purchase you claim the $7,500 tax credit in your returns correct? It's not off the MSRP.

That is correct. There is a form you need to fill out in order to claim it.

Yes, you are 100% right. The IRS form is 8936
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8936.pdf

Keep in mind that this is a non refundable credit, so you can use the credit to reduce your tax liability. However, if your tax liability is less than $7,500, you do not get a refund.

I believe that the dealer will give you some information to make your life easier when you have to file your taxes. Just tell your CPA, EA or tax professional. If you file the taxes yourself, the software should generate the form through the questions.

If anyone forgot to claim it, you usually can file an amended if in the last three tax years (2017, 2018 and 2019 based on the date of this post).

Also, keep in mind, your State and local electric vehicle credits as everything adds up.

Energy website (official) - https://afdc.energy.gov/laws/search

EnelX (easier to navigate) - https://evcharging.enelx.com/resourc...cle-incentives

PS: As you can figure out, I am a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and EA (Enrolled Agent) that loves cars and hopefully, getting a X5 45e (or x40i) by the end of the year. This forum has been fundamental to educate myself in BMW and when the time is right, take an informed decision buying an X5.

Just got a 45e for 7.6% off MSRP, there was no loyalty or financing rebates, but I was able to use a PenFed incentive for an additional $3250 rebate. Looking to get the $7500 fed tax credit and $1000 from state. Make it more worth it than the deal I was offered on a 2020 X5 xDrive40i.

I think there are a lot but the one I saw is through the Southern California Edison. https://evrebates.sce.com/

I don't think the 45e qualifies for the CVRP one.

still no incentives out on these from NA, also allocations are somewhat low. I would hope maybe next month we will see some incentives roll out for X units

Oh ok. I live in NorCal. Yeah... we don't qualify for the CVRP anymore. My 530e did though.

Jimmy,

How much of the X5 45e $7500 federal credit can be passed to the lessee?

Listed 2021 X5 45e $7500 federal credit

BMW Finance does not pass any onto the lessee, they try and make some of that up with an inflated residual value, or so it has been said.

What is that mean inflated residual? Residual is same across the board?

In the past on 40e half of the 7500 was passed on to lessee from dealer.

I shot Jimmy Miller a text to see what insight he can give on this.

he said he was pretty sure none of it right now. at least it doesn't come from BMW, he believes it something the buyer does on their own. We just had a guy elect not to lease and purchase for this vary reason. its not like a i3 where BMW gives you the $7500 as lease credit. Currently there is zero incentives on the 45e at this time.

any other questions or quotes feel free to shoot Jimmy Miller an email jmiller@stevethomasbmw.com he is one of our awesome reps and will dial you (PS closed sundays)
