i've actually made friends at my gym from people approaching me about driving the smart and asking about "how i fit" (i'm 6'03" / 230lbs). people are mostly curious about it because its so oddly small- then the find out its electric and it launches a whole next level of curiosity.

the people that have had the most negative reactions are typically 17-22 year old males working in service jobs like a fast food drive through. i feel like that demographic typically has a narrow perspective and very short-time perspective that doesn't let them see past the car and the greater purpose it serves. i mean, my other car isn't a ferrari, but its not a slug, either.

another thing- people seem flabbergasted when i mention the [relatively] short 65 mile range of the smart. "what do you do if you need to drive farther than that?!" uuhh, i take one of my gas cars. *OOOOOOOhhhh!*
I personally feel attacked as when im in school thats me but i do totally understand it. As someone in that age range for some reason I feel like im being judged almost when im driving my SUV over the BMW. But not having to rely on someone else ever is also great because I have all the practicality I need for any weather or if i need to haul stuff.

As for the smart its easy to make fun of but its basically a street legal electric go-kart, fits anywhere and its worry free parking.

I commute up the sea to sky highway between Vancouver and Whistler BC. so I def do not drive the m4 all winter, and I am itching to drive it again and will make the most of my 6-7 solid months of warmer weather. BUT having to drive a beater for half the year .. is basically taking away the better part of the majority of my work days.. I love having to drive that highway to work, so winter time I drive our other vehicle, our arch nemesis haha 2018 Audi sq5.. man oh man I am grinning from ear to ear all year round, two totally different experiences but both seasons have their highlights.
And guess what people .. I love Audi Quattro and I love BMW M ! Now what lol 😂

Speaking of track days it wil be my first this season so looking forward am planning 2-4 days 🙏🏽👍🏾!

Cars back on the road next Thursday going straight to shop kw clubsport 2 way have arrived !

Just got a 2019 Toyota C-HR LE to use for daily driving duties. Due to some recent situations, I needed a daily to relieve my 135i from those duties. From around early to mid summer till January, I managed to rack up about 13,000 miles on the 135i. At that rate, I was going to be staring at some major maintenance bills in short order due to all the wear and tear.

I also needed something more practical for daily duties to be able to haul stuff around and still be able to seat passengers comfortably with my daughter's car seat installed. With the 135i, I could barely have a passenger if they're a bit on the shorter side if my daughter is in the car seat and that's it. There's no way anyone is sitting behind me with my 6'5" frame.

My 128i is my beater because I only take the Bullitt out on nice days. The only problem is that I love driving the 128i much more than the Mustang. Driving the Bullitt is a spectacle and it's fun for show. The inner child in me loves lighting up the tires and powersliding through a corner. Other than that it's sloppy, overweight, and not rewarding as a driver's car in the slightest.

Great topic! I need some ideas...

I need a AWD dog car... I sold my E91 couple weeks ago and need a replacement. Any suggestions? Needs to be AWD and okay to handle the NY Winters.

its rear engined, rear wheel drive, and 1,900 lbs. if you stomp the throttle and throw it into a corner, it hunkers down pretty good. lots of torque! the only thing is, because of the short wheel base, they made the traction control very intrusive... so if you get too crazy, it cuts the fun. you can turn it off, but its a procedure you have to do before you drive the car.

but yes, people don't realize the relief a smart car provides with literally parking it anywhere, not caring about door dings, speed bumps, or going up driveways at 45* so you don't scrape. i just mob that thing up driveways and over speed bumps. lol
its governed at 83 mph, and i have it pegged on the highway and it doesn't have any problem keeping up or passing.

2016 Jetta S 5 speed. It was a cheap lease I ended up keeping because the new Jetta sucks. The 1.4 turbo makes it fun. Also have an 84 Hilux SR5 extra cab the true beater which is a work whores.

My beater is a 2000 Acura Integra GSR. Use it when I'll be driving on the beach, doing long term airport parking, leaving it in parking garage when need to take my work car home, parking in the Green Park for the upcoming 12 Hours of Sebring, etc.
