Adding Tow Hitch - X5
Sooo I opted to not get the off-road package, nor the optional tow hitch. I'm now realizing this was a mistake. My understanding is that all X5's come "pre-wired" for the stow-away tow hitch. Would I be able to simply Add the OEM tow hitch.. or am I SOL?

I called my local BMW Dealership in the UK as I'm in the same situation as you.
They quoted me the following: £2,723 electric swivel, parts alone - not fitted £2,332 for the detachable one, parts alone - not fitted. So, yes you can get it retrofitted. It's expensive and you're probably as well going for the electrically deplorable one. Makes the factory fitted one seem like great value. |

Like several others on this forum, I've had the Stealth Hitch installed. It's a really nice piece of kit and is totally invisible from the rear when the hitch block isn't installed. I did only opt for the "rack" option and am awaiting Steve at Stealth to put together a Tow conversion pack with the OEM controller and harness. None of the hitches are "cheap", especially when you factor in the cost of labor to remove the bumper, install the hitch, and then put everything back together neatly. Some on the forum have done their own Stealth Hitch install, but that was beyond my ability and I had an independent BMW garage do the install for me. |

Anyone have any idea when BMW will come with a US version of OEM tow hitch? I have a 50% coupon ($200 benefit max) from Costco to use at the dealership I bought from, but they say there are no OEM tow hitches for this 2020 X5 available yet and they don't know when one will become available. I have 6 months to use this coupon |

I don’t think anyone knows. I’ve heard BMW Canada say that they aren’t planning to offer one at all, but that could change anytime. I’ve also heard that there used to be one for the new X3 but they pulled it from sale for some unknown reason. It’s quite mysterious. There are a few threads on this subject; you’ll find them if you use the forum search tools.

I've ordered a Stealth hitch for my 2019 X5. The are a little behind shipping due to covid, but I'll have it installed by a authorized Steal hitch installer when it arrives

With the oem box hitch, you can easily transport bikes and other items that work on this universal system. The possibilities are endless and it keeps everything off your roof and outside your vehicle.
