We have two small Airedales who have been acclimated to car rides from the get-go. To prevent them from becoming flying projectiles, we’ve put them in harnesses and tied them to the cargo anchors. They’re indifferent to having rear seats up or down. Cargo floor protected by OEM (Weathertech) cargo liner plus old blanket for comfort and easy shake-out.

This worked well for my Rhodesian. Not a perfect fit but for 50 bucks worth it.

We have an English Crème Golden Retriever. We used to have the OEM cargo mat cover to make cleanups of dog hair easier. I got tired of how dingy the mat can look so right now it’s stored in the garage. Got one of these and life is so much easier:

Here you go - the best cargo liner on the market.
https://www.canvasback.com/bmw-x5-ca...2019-2020.html

Make sure to get the side panels too. I have a German Shedder and find that the hair does niot stick to this fabric and is easy to vacuum off. I use a Weathertec liner on the floor as well.

I let whatever happens happen. I just make sure to always clean up any messes immediately.

The dog gets fur everywhere, but we bought an SUV to use as a family car so I can't complain. Plus it's easy enough to vacuum. Once the baby gets older I'm guessing there's going to be much more I'll have to clean so I guess this is practice.

I wish I could keep the car clean 100% of the time, but I don't want to be that husband / dad that won't let anyone drink a soda in the car because it might spill. But I'm sure as hell not drinking a soda in the car lol

I'm considering going to an upholstery shop to have a custom cover made that covers almost everything in the rear passenger compartment. Seats, door armrest and especially carpet.

I have an english bulldog who sheds quite a bit and makes a huge mess inside my current car. He's short haired so the hairs go in all kinds of places in the carpet and is a b*tch to vacuum. It's almost as if it embeds into the fabric. Moreover, he likes to stare out the window which means he's stepping on the armrests quite often and with my upcoming X6 being full Merino leather, I'd like to avoid any paw contact in that area.
I have this pet safety seat for our Jack Russel.

https://www.amazon.de/PetSafe-Sicher...rt-Strapazierfähige-waschmaschinenfeste/dp/B082QBM48C/ref=asc_df_B082QBM48C/

It's high enough so he can look ouside the window. I put it on the passenger seat when driving alone or the middle of the back seat. So he can also look outside from the front. He loves it
Your dog is so adorable! Just had to comment. LOL!

Pretty well any liner is going to have some fur float around. I'll share a trick to hair removal that works really well. Put on some of those mechanics surgical latex gloves, and start sweeping the carpeted area. The rubbing glove produces some kind of static, and the hairs pull right out. Armed with a vacuum in the other hand, the job is much, much easier. A 2 hour job is now down to 20 mins.... heheh... you'll thank me later...lol!

We use this for the backseat:

https://www.orvis.com/grip-tight-qui...ctor/20HP.html

and this for the cargo area:

https://www.orvis.com/grip-tight-qui...ctor/20JH.html

Both are fantastic. Soft, durable and don't slide on the seat/cargo area. Additionally the dog loves them.

I’m not particularly eager to drive in the car with my dog. It is very curious and active. Therefore, it often interferes with careful driving. However, I have a special cage for these cases. I use it if I need to take a Labrador to the clinic. Btw, which toys do you prefer for your four-legged friends? I found https://www.doggietoys.deals/product...large-rope-toy / last week. Snowy regards toys as something edible. Therefore, it tries to eat them. Moreover, it doesn’t care about the material and size. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

We keep our yellow lab in the cargo area on a Weathertech mat. Also have a powerful shop vac to remove all the fur and don't open the sunroof when she's in the vehicle. When covered in beach sand after an ocean swim, she rides in our Defender which does not have any carpet or fabric in the rear cargo area.

I’ve been researching in anticipation of my 45e arrival.
with lifetime warranty and mesh to allow HVAC through the middle. And sides to protect the door arm rests:
Meadowlark hammock
Duluth’s Trading

Orvis is missing the side panels (my dogs proper there) but is really heavy and well made and would have gotten.

I just ordered Meadowlark, I like the black color option.

110 lb. black Lab. (at least I have a black interior, so I don't see as much hair)

Just another reason I lease. Much less stressful.

This is the only safe way to transport pets. I see people driving around with pets in their laps all the time. This won't buy you much sympathy from the sheriff as you try to explain how you lost control of your car.

I use this backseat crate for my ~20# rescue cattle dog mix. He is a tripod so need to keep him secured.

Overall it has been a great solution for us. He tolerates it very well. Had a recent 6 hour road trip. A $1 Ikea door mat on the floor gives him more traction (and it traps hair like crazy). I also put a washable "pee pad" between the crate and the seat.

The zippers could be a bit more robust but haven't broken yet (~4x/week use for ~6 months). It would also be nice if you could see through the mesh windows better--he can see out fine, but I can't see him very well.

Not sure if this is best for the OP with heat a sensitive breed, tho.

I'm a huge Fan of the Orvis Products. They work and look great.

This is what we have in ours: https://www.orvis.com/grip-tight-win...ctor/20H1.html

They sell many other high quality products as well.

This looks great. What size did you select? How well does it fit in your x5?
