Center armrest removal

My white leather is stained beyond repair on the center armrest. I've ordered the new part from BMW that contains both upholstered halves of the hinged mechanism that opens to access the storage box. https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...st-51166996501

I can't figure out for the life of me how to swap it out. It doesn't look like the whole center console needs to come out. Would anyone happen to have the relevant page from the workshop manual handy?

Thanks for any help!

There is no shop manual for the G05. It's all in BMW's TIS (Technical Information System). If no one has that (not something most people would preemptively download), you can pay $30 for 24hrs access to https://bmwtechinfo.bmwgroup.com. To make it cost effective, sign up when you have a whole day's free time and spend that time printing common maintenance stuff to pdf (oil change, belt change, spark plug change, differential flush, tranny flush, various interior trim remove/install, coolant flush, etc). Once logged into that system, you can input your VIN to get documentation relevant to your particular model.

Here you go. Make sure to disconnect all batteries before attempting otherwise it will throw some error messages which would need to be cleared.

Good luck!

Thanks so much @roxxor for the instructions. If it helps anyone in the future, there’s no need to remove and disconnect the center console panel with the shifter and buttons. It lifts up enough to reach the screws that hold the armrest assembly. I guess that means there is no need to disconnect the batteries, but proceed at your own risk. All associated screws are T-15.

Awesome, glad it worked. Yeah I’ve found that BMW’s instructions include steps sometimes that aren’t totally necessary, just depends on what you are trying to do.

Any suggestions on how to remove the small pink 4-pin connector for the idrive controller in order to remove the center console?
