Thanks for sharing your experiences guys.
I am in the process of moving to the Bonn/Cologne area and have been considering taking my 2022 X5 to Germany. Can you guys give me an idea of the total cost for the conversions that you had to make? Also, can you share who you used to transport the car to Germany and what that cost? |

the following might change for you when you are with the Army.
- Head lights (approx. 1800€ for used Laser Lights, need the ECE label, US/CAN has SAE, LED is less expensive) - Tail lights (500€ for used ones, need the ECE label, US/CAN has SAE) - Rear fog light (70€ on *bay) - labour costs (1000€) - to change lights and to install cables to rear and fog lights (have done the tail and fog lights myself) - reprogramming the software to German market - German Street Map in iDrive - 800€ for roadworthiness test (needs a data sheet of approx. 400€) in order to get a title which you need to register the car in Germany Thats about it. Also consider the US/CAN cars are limited to 210 km/h / 130mph top speed. It will cost about 1000€ to get this lifted. What I still chasing is to get the car registered with the VIN in the German BMW Connected Drive system to use these services. BMW cars have about the same sticker price as in Canada but with the exchange rate between the € and CAD this was worthy to me. I had not transportation costs as the car did fit in the container of my household stuff. Good luck. Ping me if you need more info. |

Thanks this is very helpful.
I’m moving on behalf of a private company, so no Army connections. How were you able to find used headlight and taillights? Is there a particular website you used to get these in Germany? Were you able to drive your X5 before modifications for a certain amount of time in Germany so you can take the vehicle in to be inspected and then to have a little time for all the modifications to be made? Thanks again for sharing your experience. |
