When mine got stuck, I ended up using a small pry bar working it side to side down. Keep in mind, it's fairly heavy so when it lets loose, you don't want to have it drop on you or anything that can't handle the impact.

It's a good idea to put a good coat of moisture resistant grease on it before you put it back in later. It's messier for when you take it out the next time, but worth it.

When they sold the company, they redesigned the parts to be SS, so less corrosion...still can happen if you drive in the winter or near the coast, but not as fast.
