Is this true for preconditiong and automation ? Like if temp is below some condition it turns on wheel and seat(s) ?

Yes, I was referring to the Climate Rules but assume coding would work for preconditioning.

It could be that someone needs to be in the passenger seat for it to kick on with the climate rules. Never tested that but someone mentioned that in the past. I'm talking about remote starting the vehicle/pre-conditioning when of course no one is in the vehicle.

For pure ice and pure EV, it is simpler, because there is one type of energy involved. With PHEV, it gets complicated because what portion of the test course is done in EV vs ICE is not well defined. There is probably no good way because the EV portion will and should depend on the EV range (battery size). So take mpge for PHEV as grain of salt.

For 45e, let’s give a shot to see what EPA did here.

Assumption:
1. Ice combined mpg: 20, or 5gal/100miles
2. EV MPGe: 31miles/17.1kWh, using 33.7kWh=1gal, we get EV MPGe = 61.1MPGe, or 1.63galE/100miles.

To archive 50MPGe or 2galE/100miles, as claimed by EPA, let’s estimate EV and ICE portion in term of percentage, x, here.

5x + 1.63(1-x) = 2, => x = 0.11, let’s call it 0.1 or 10%

I think this is where that 0.1 gal in the epa chat is from. This means if you do 10% driving with ice and 90% in EV, you get 50MPGe. But then we should ask ourselves, why 10/90 split? Seem arbitrary to me.

Plus if they are using a 100 mile distance how could they drive 90% of it in EV mode with a 45e?

If I do the math assuming 30 miles in EV and 70 miles with gas, I get a combined figure of about 25 mpg.

These numbers are so convoluted as to be meaningless other than maybe comparing across cars of the same type of powertrain. Even then who knows. For example, I know the Q5 plugin defaults to EV mode on startup whereas the X5 defaults to its hybrid mode... wondering if differences like that could artificially skew these combined figures.

Better to just look at the efficiency figures for EV and ICE separately then draw your own conclusions based on how you drive. They do have a "plugin hybrid calculator" to help with that.

My 45e defaults to whatever I have it selected to start up on, like right now I have it starting in Electric Individual all the time.

Right but the EPA would test it in the default "key up" setting- which is hybrid.

OK so its been few weeks (almost a month) and I have 500 on the car. 430 of those are electric. The charging was 195kW at .24 cents so about 47$ so .10 cents per mile or so ?
I can not gauge the ICE/hybrid usage, as I havent put any gas in from the dealer, its still like 89% full.

but so far what do you guys think ?

Was just logging in to post similar …. Got in our 22 45e this morning to see the range T the highest point since new:

However, after driving a couple hours, it’s back to normal range.

After filling up, we did see the best total range/miles to empty in a long time though at 448 moles
