Availability of Michelin PS4 ZP for 21" 741M
Hey all,
Trying to find a good set of Michelin's for the 741M is an excrutiatingly annoying process, but it seems like Michelin does make the PS4 SUV ZP in 21" sizes. At least, that's what Tire Rack tells me. Yes, they are RFTs unfortunately which means they won't be as comfortable as non RFTs, but hey I'm hoping they won't be as bad as the Continentals the X5 comes with as standard. The only problem seems to be - availability. Any idea why these are so ridiculously hard to find ? And, has anyone here tried these? I don't suppose these come as OEM from the factory, but considering these are available, I'd be curious to know if these are available anywhere near you? If so, please do let me know. Cheers!

21" by default is a very annoying size to find. That's why no one recommends them if you plan replacing stock tires or need all season/winter set. It's made worse because of staggering.
PS4s are considered some of the absolute best tires. Good luck getting your rears because they don't restock them often and they often instantly sell out.

It is only a 2% difference which I think is within the difference tolerance.

BMW says 1% tolerance, meaning difference in wear of the same original size tires. They don't mean installing tires that are 1% off. Your combo is 2% off to start with and is way out of even that wear tolerance.

In my case with a 3 row and a hitch (load rating shown on the door jamb), the numbers came out just under the required load rating even without the BMW's specified safety factor of 1.1. If I applied the factor, I am well under the rating with the 295 in the rear. Most of us with a 2 row and no hitch, it is probably ok. I have dedicated entirely too much of my life to this subject and have resigned myself to a previously crazy thought of running a different tire front to back......may BMW be cursed for their tire size selection of this vehicle. I would just like to get some better summer tires. The Continentals are just god awful and putting them on a vehicle as capable as the X5 is such a terrible thing to do. Has anyone successfully replaced the 21" staggered setup with something else other than Continentals or Hankooks? Oh, and one last silly question - what are the various reasons why we should avoid mixing RFTs with Non RFTs, assuming tread depth remains the same all around and the specs are the same as stock? I am assuming due to the difference in compounds used for making the tires the handling characteristics will change drastically?

I had Michelin Pilot Sport4 SUV (275/40 R21 107Y XL) on my fronts when I had 21's - non-runflat. Amazingly good tyres, as you would expect.
Rears are available too in non-runflat - Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV 315/35 R21 111Y XL. They were very easy to find here in the UK, odd that you can't get them in Canada. |

Are those the Pirelli Scorpion Verde's? Or the P-Zeros? How was your experience with them? Our Q5 came shod with OEM Pirelli's a long time ago and I found them severely lacking in grip and comfort. Perhaps slightly better than the Continentals, but that's like saying Syphilis is better than Gonorrhea.

My X5 50e came with Pirelli P Zero's. Other than being extremely loud, I find them to be very good tires. I do plan to trade out to Michelins when I can find the correct size. |

I have 21” staggered set up on my Cayenne paired with non-RFT OEM Pirelli Scorpion Verde. I’m happy with their performance albeit only for about 6000 miles. They have 2022 mfg dates. I find them to be much quieter than my previous set of Pirelli's on my 2017 X5 also with a staggered setup.
