X6M Non Competition Exhaust

Just took delivery of my 2023 X6M Non Competition and I was pretty bummed when I put her in sport plus and the exhaust didnt seem to change any. I am coming from a 2020 M5 Comp and really miss my crackles and pops.

I am really surprised because I actually pulled up as many videos as I could comparing the non competition exhaust to the competition and felt I couldnt even hear a difference. I also was told the M sport exhaust was standard after 2020 on M models? Perhaps its because I havent had my break in service yet or is the competition all the difference?

Will I have to tune or can I get my crackles and pops back without an akropovic full system?

Oh boy.

1. Tuning this thing is next to impossible without sending DME to femto oversees. There are other claims out there that state they can activate the crackles by turning it on in the software. This has proven to work for some but cause idrive malfunctions for most.

2. The stock exhaust on the X5M and X5MC is quiet....period. The cheapest and fastest way to wake it up is removing the secondary catalytic converters. This will cause zero CEL's and is relatively easy to do. The next step to make even louder is replacing the catback or chopping into the factory system and installing an axleback. Depends if you want to keep the factory resonators or not. Lastly, if you want the most sound out of your beast. Primary Catalytic converter removal. You will need a CAN-BUS delete to rid yourself of the CEL. LEIB Engineering or G-Power make this module that you wire in. I have this on mine and it has worked with no issues. No CEL.

3. FI Exhaust, Dinan, eismann, g-power, etc all make great SS exhausts. However if you have 10K to drop on a Akra, you do you. There are plenty on here that had the coin to have that peice of jewelry. But no, it is absolutely not required to make your X5M sound alive. A great resource is Ben from RGSport. He can help you further.

The easy, non invasive way to have more power is installing the RaceChip GTS Black. This will give you a significant bump in power. Nobody currently makes a intake that really sounds special. However, if you want more jewelry to go with the Akra exhaust, get the Dinan intake. Gorgeous carbon fiber design that sets your engine baby's appearance on . However, we are all waiting on the Eventuri intake. It is near production, starting sometime in July. Hope this helps ya.

Secondary downpipes combined with any FULL exhaust will give you back some pops on deceleration and turbo whistle. Natural sounding. Not that stupid artificial gun shots bull crap people like nowadays

thanks for this info brotha, yeah I do not want to spend that kinda cash on an exhaust, Something must have happened between 2020 and 2023 that made them get rid of the exhaust, maybe people didnt like it.

Doing the secondary cat delete helps increase without being obnoxious. It's definitely more pronounced without other negative side effects. The upshift pop is more noticeable too.

is the delete reversible? Ive only ever replaced full systems. In my M6 and my X5M I did full systems and it was always easy to put back.

You're replacing the pipe sections. As long as you keep the original parts, you can always swap them back in like factory. I kept mine in case I decide to sell the vehicle later. It can be completely returned to stock.

Absolutely. As long as you keep all.your original parts, it would be completely reversible. Don't get rid of the catalytic converters, they are HELLA EXPENSIVE to buy back!

Sadly, with a full FI exhaust + secondary DP, our F95 doesn't get any burbles/pops on decel.

I guess if you are expecting constant pop pop pop on decel then no thats not going to give you that. I think only way is to get a tune to accomplish this.

On my car with just dinan xpipe and Akra rear when i let off the throttle i would hear a few burble/pops for 1-2 secs then it stops.

I also watched as many videos as I could find when deciding what to do to bring this baby alive and thanks to people like gotbeemed & alan I am now super happy with my results, full akra, race chip, and secondary cat delete. I actually just picked it up today so I haven't gotten to really see what it can do but in the short time I was in it I can agree the difference is substantial. No videos give you the true sounds you get, my main concern was getting a turbo whistle & a more aggressive sound and its almost all the way there. I really want to do the primary cat delete after hearing the turbos open up finally but Im not in a rush as of rn. I see you are in so cal would you happen to be in LA by any chance ? You could hear it in person and see if it sounds like what you're looking for.

Secondary cat delete and Akrapovic cat-back will waken up your car.
RaceChip and BMC Drop-in filter will help too.

Fi exhaust is quiet Tame. It only opens up on Sport Plus, yet still a tad quieter than Akrapovic.
