Well, I guess I will start a thread for those with still the slimmest of margins to qualify for the tax credit. The dealer I used had a November allocation but when he entered my build it had slipped to week 49. Now is pushed back to week 50. That should still work for shipment to Chicago but can't slip any more.

(Interestingly, Genius confirmed the week 50 but said that is when production starts, not when done, and it could take two weeks to complete, which is clearly wrong.)

I'm in the same boat, started out at 47 and slipped to 50 this week. Genius told me the same thing re: production start date - maybe we spoke to the same person?

I'm holding out hope I will have it before the holidays - delivery to the DC area shouldn't take long. I'm undecided on what I'll do if it gets pushed into the new year. The loss of the $7500 credit hurts, but there aren't any good alternatives. Every other dealer/brand seems to have months long wait times or they are charging markups, and the used market is still over-valued and what is out there isn't well optioned.

I agree. The X5 45e really doesn't have any good alternatives right now. Everything else is either much more expensive, requires an extreme amount of patience and long wait time to obtain, or all of the above.

MB has teased an interesting GLE PHEV for the 2024 model year with awesome range and overall good specs. It will give the X5 45e a run for its money, but that doesn't help any of us trying to buy a car now.

The Range Rover Sport PHEV is in a whole different price category that I'm not prepared to consider.

The Cayenne PHEV is too expensive and has poor electric range.

The Volvo has poor EV range.

The Lexus RX coming out in 2023 looks promising but will take forever to obtain.

That pretty much just leaves Kia, Toyota, and some other alternatives that won't be as luxurious or drive as well as the X5.

I personally haven't decided what I'll do if I miss out on the tax rebate due to these delays. I may just give up on PHEVs for now and get something like a Range Rover Velar.

I will say that the new Volvo fully electric looks kind of dope- looks like a polestar

No. You must take possession of the vehicle. Only those who’ve been able to get a binding contract prior to Aug 16 can do what you described due to the transition rule.

However, the case for majority of us we must take possession prior to the end of the year if we want to qualify for the tax credit.

Mine slipped from week 47 to 50 this past week also.
With regards to the credit, if delivery is taken in Jan of 2023, the x5 will still be available for the tax credit in the 2023 tax year correct?

the agreed consensus is that you must take delivery before Jan 1 to qualify for the EV tax credit. You'll know your production date about 2 weeks out from Week 50. I got my production date of 11/29 on 11/10 (you'll know because it will say 'scheduled for prodution')

No, the 45e is not expected to meet either of the battery requirements. BMWNA's CEO has said no BMW vehicle will be eligible for the credit.

don't despair, all is not lost. If you get your car actually assembled week 50, there is a possible chance it will get to you in a couple days. But you'll have to make sure your dealer is going to open around the holidays.

I talked to the dealer yesterday and he mentioned we could do paperwork before end of the year if we have VIN, even if we have to take delivery in January. Any worries or concerns about doing something like this?

Did you look at the Audi Q5 e? I saw there's some in Tysons. It's a little cheaper all around but if my build(s) go into 2023 I'll give one of those a try.

I would have loved a Cayenne PHEV to have longer range but I agree, it isn't very useful at 13 miles

The Volvo has been updated and now has 32 miles electric-only range, so it is comparable to X5 45e. I personally like the current X5 interface with switches rather than touch-screen based UI that Volvo has (and the LCI X5.....)

A friend of mine just picked up an X5 45e (he lucked out on a cancelled order a dealer had when he walked in) but while he was looking, he said the markup on Lexus and Volvo were just too much to stomach in the San Francisco area, and the wait time.......

He is incorrect, first of all he is not allowed to do the paperwork early as far as I know but more importantly you still will not qualify for the credit since you did not put the vehicle into service.

I went from 111 to 112 yesterday and today Genius confirmed I am still week 50.

Was told the factory will stop working 12/23-12/26 for the holidays so I'm hoping as long I don't get bumped later, there's a chance I can take delivery prior to 12/31 depending on when the dealer is open. It's going to be cutting it close.

This may have been covered before, but how do the cars get to the DC area? By vehicle transport or rail?
