Digital Key Plus with Samsung S20
Hi All
I have an incoming X5 50e and wonder if anyone has a Samsung S20 and an X5 LCI? If so, is the the Digital Key on the phone compatible with S20? I think I will have the 8.5 system when I collect the car early in 2024. Thanks. |

Does the S20 have UWB (Ultra Wide Band)?

Doesn't look like my S20 5G has UWB. Hmm... time for a phone upgrade it seems for the new car. Thanks for the tip!

Looks like you'll have to get a Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus/Ultra, S22 Plus/Ultra, S23 Plus/Ultra to get UWB (or change brand )

It's worth a shot but there does appear to be a bug with DK+ for Android. It will all set up perfectly and work for a day or 2 but then it reverts to DK/DK+. The key being (pun intended) the DK+ comfort access stops working. You can still DK to open and start the X5 via touching the door handle and putting the phone in the wireless charging tray. The irony is the DK+ buttons on the key still work to lock/unlock, tailgate, etc. via UWB.
That's at least my experience along with others with in my case specifically a Google Pixel 7 Pro on Android 13. Hoping the Android 14 push coming this month resolves the issue but still skeptical as most likely the issue is with iD8. Here's a pic of the buttons active via UWB (close to the same distance as a fob) but the comfort access will no longer function. Good luck with your new Samsung not having a similar issue. 👍 |

Irony is I did an update search on the Pixel 7 Pro and wala it started pulling down Android 14. Appears to be the silver bullet at least for Pixels (which run vanilla Android) as when I went to the garage to take the M850i on an errand run the X5 carpet lights, etc. lit up. My first thought was "did I grab the right fob", checked and indeed the M850i fob. So the digital key on the Pixel 7 Pro lit up comfort access on the X5. Hallelujah as I'm now full DK+. 👍

Well currently looking into a Samsung S22 or S23 so might do the trick! Had an X3 M40i and became very accustomed to the MyBMW app back then as a good interface. Now the DK+ is a new level of advancement so look forward to that... plus the HAP capabilities etc.

Just purchased a Samsung S23+ with the embedded UWB for Digital Key Plus. So, does the DKP work by simply havi g phone in pocket and no need to take phone to hold against the door handle? I.e. is it proximity based recognition

yup, it uses UWB to sense when you (the phone) gets close
