There's nothing to justify a $12k increase over the 50i

Thanks SO MUCH to all for your insights and guidance

Excited to be coming back to BMW
You'll regret it versus waiting 3-4 months and see what the M50 pricing looks like and decide then to buy a discounted '19 50i or the updated M50i.

You seem to be justifying your urge to go buy one now. Trust me! I've been waiting since last year and I'm holding tight. The M50i will be perfect.

I disagree on waiting. Id rather have it now. There is always next lease around the corner. It will be end of september by the time we see first 2020s out by then id have the 50 close to a year

I pulled the trigger on Sat and ordered a 2019.

I lease my cars, so I will take delivery in April, have it for 2-3 years (i.e., really don't care about the depreciation this fall when the new engine comes out, etc).

My key decision was that the current horsepower and price are already crazy. Did I really need to wait until the fall for 70 more horsepower? I also didn't want the (possible) harsh ride of an "M" badged car as my daily commute includes city/urban driving.

Thanks for all the insights and guidance!

Look at every single other mXX model in the BMW lineup.

^^^This!
I find it humorous that so many here think the M50i is going to cost your first born child over the 50i! Granted the new engine and a few cosmetic tweaks, but it's just BMW's marketing strategy as of late to designate their top trim level as "M performance"

I can't find any recent information on a release date for the X5 M50i or any specific details. Dealerships say they don't have any information or details at this point. Any ideas when to expect an order guide since bmw starts production in August for the current X5.

The most accurate answer is, no one really knows.

Yes, it's very pretty (and I would have totally picked it), but I'm sorry, $1900 for a color that they should be offering anyway is just highway robbery, if you will excuse the pun.

Exactly. As I pointed out earlier in this thread, people need to be reminded that the M50i is not an addition to the lineup, it's just a replacement / continuation of the current 50i. No reason to expect it to be any more than the normal year over year increase.

Nah...I least I didn't pay $5k for individual San Marino Blue on my current M3CS (and now it's a standard color on the final M4 run)!!

I would not down play it either. BMW puts M performance cars in a separate categoty now
For starters - M pack and brakes are going to be included - so it will be 4400 dollars more to start.
That new engine is pretty impressive and was redesignd in a lot of areas. - go drive M850 to see and hear for yourself. HP bump alone is one of the highest i've heard of.

Bigger question is - will they offer air suspension as option or will they stick with performance springs and dampers to push the car further into sport category. Will they include DHP as standard - judging from M 340 - they might. It comes with rear differential. This will bump the price another 3400. So it is 8 k now

Will they exclude X line? Will you be able to order off road pack. I think - not. So for those who want off road x line 50. Now is the time to get one

Just ordered X5 50i

I just ordered a 50i 2 weeks ago....

I currently drive a 2016 X5 35i. Going from 320 hp to 456 hp is a huge jump. Not sure I need 500+ hp. Will there be any aesthetic changes other than the M logo on the side? Why would they not launch the M50i with the new X5 instead of releasing the 50i?

IMO, nobody does the black/blue or blue/black like Carbon Black, Tanzanite, San Marino, etc.. like BMW. Its a signature BMW look. To pay extra is no big deal as Porsche charges more for just about all their better colors.

My situation was somewhat different. I ordered a 2019 X5 50i in January to replace my company owned 2015 X5 50i. It had just turned 50,000 miles which is when I could replace it. I had a budget to work with that just barely worked with 2019 pricing and I am pretty sure 2020 pricing would have put it past that threshold. Therefore I felt fortunate the M50i hadn’t been introduced yet. 456 horsepower is adequate for me.
