Five decades ago, Boeing's new 727 jet also had a terrible start https://reut.rs/2OqnNYO

This is not the first time that Boeing has faced a crisis after launching a new plane with innovative technology. In 1965, three Boeing 727-100 passenger jets crashed in less than three months in the United States while coming into land, killing a total of 131 people.

I got an itch to buy some BA shares as well, but the market is on a downturn so the macro will probably put some downward pressure on the stocks. The market will not go up from here unless the FED will lower rate. Earning growth this year will be pretty bad.

My thoughts are commercial airliners are really safe in spite of design choices like this and questionable maintenance practices by certain airlines.

If people can't be trained to turn off a system that can crash the plane under certain circumstances where it wouldn't otherwise crash, that's the kind of issue you and I run into every day. Surprised more planes don't crash to be honest.

Agree with all except the Fed does not need to lower rates here, we need a healthy technical pullback (hopefully on the sell the news effect of a China deal) and then we may see new highs before year end.

IMHO of course...

It would be interesting if the cause turns out NOT to be the faulty sensors which could potentially open up a new can of worms.

It seems like the pilot in the Ethiopian airline did follow Boeing procedure to disable the MCAS. Hm... this could open up another can of worm. All the assumptions so far is the problem caused by the faulty sensors but this shows there could be some other unknown issues.

The 737 MAX was rubber stamped by Obama's FAA, they pretty much let Boeing do its own certification of the MAX unchecked!
Mr Trump has a lot of clean up to do, not just at the DoJ etc.

The latest Boeing firmware patch was based on the assumption the crash was caused solely because of the faulty sensors. If the report on the Ethiopean crash is accurate that disabling the MCAS did not help, does that invalidate this current software update?

There is a possibility of there is something else that we don't know at least not yet.

That's why there was that one guy on a plane all by himself in the last couple days?

“This airplane is designed by clowns, who in turn are supervised by monkeys,”
said one company pilot in messages to a colleague in 2016, which Boeing disclosed publicly late Thursday.
