Help me compare: 2017/18 X5 M and 2019/20 X5 M50i

Better acceleration?

Better handling?

Quieter ride?

More refined interior?

Etc.

Thanks!

Purely my opinion. I own a 2020 M50i and have only test driven a 2018 X5M.

Drove both.

2019 50i is more refined in the interior except the hideous gauge cluster.

Also quieter and more refined overall.

Both similarly fast but 2017 X5M feels def faster.

2017 X5 M is better in handling and sportive driving situations.

50i is also cheaper and newer but the fake pipes in the back and the huge front grille (looks overall) is not as attractive as the X5M IMO.

If you are a hardcore driving fanatic you should get the X5M, if not 50i is a robust car and nice choice.

I'm going to respond to this assuming the X5M is identical to the X6M..

No amount of power, upgrades or tuning will compensate a true M car. I've driven the new M50i and while it is super powerful it still has a floaty feel to it, more like being in a super quick luxury yacht, against a proper race boat.

Hope that helps

Just drove the X5 M50, but without DHP. There was no comparison. My ‘17 X5M handles far better in every regard. I’m sure the DHP would help with roll and suspension feel, but the brakes and steering felt far different from my M even in sport mode compared to mine in comfort setup. The F85 in full sport plus blows it away. Can’t wait to try the F95. The only thing better was the exhaust note. Maybe. Also I have to disagree about the interior seeming more refined on the 50. It seemed more cluttered and less clean if that makes sense. And yes the gauges are a visual mess. I really wanted to like it.

I agree with you 100%, I wonder why I sold my F85 - I may have to go back to one!

There is no substitute for the real thing. The X5 with M Sport Package is a great vehicle, but an X5M will completely alter your thinking about what is possible in an SUV. The F85 I currently drive has changed my life forever. lol

I've got an M50i arriving in May but coming from a decade of genuine M cars I don't even need to drive the X5M to know it will be much better. There's simply no comparison ever between a proper M and an M-lite (great cars though they are).
