Fully loaded X5 45e ordered!
Finally ordered an X5 45e after plenty of hours with research of colors and test drive at my local BMW dealer. I love equipments, so I did a big cross at the option list. I will get 2021-production for the car, so it will probably not arrive before in late September.
Planned retrofits: - Touch column indicator and wiper stalks from F15 (or at least pre 07/2017 G11 without rear wiper) - 22" inch summer (like the wheels similar the user dubsed has on his X5) - M50i/d air ducts (will get them painted/chrommed to match the grille and exhaust) - RHD mirror for the passenger side (EU cars does not have auto dim mirror at the right side anymore, the RHD mirror will fix it) - RHD sun visor to get rid of the "airbag lable" at the passenger side - Bowers & Wilkins headset for the RSE - X7 rear comfort seat headrest for rear seat passengers, maybe with cuddle as well (they are manually operated) - Get the saddler to cover some plastic interior trims that's not possible to get leather covered from the factory - M8 steering wheel cover with split - Piano wood trim headliner grab handle from G11/G12 - Floating center caps - Spacers for the 21" inch wheels - Equip the OEM 21" inch wheels with winter tires - Replace the "M" door sills with "Individual" (you can only get Individual sills without M-sport) - F97 X3 M mirror caps (or get them from F85 X5 M) - X7 door locks button in silver (so they match the silver frame of the door handle/button) - Paint the rear diffusor high gloss black - Paint the rear reflex - Code the car to ride at the lowest air suspension position (or change the links so they manipulate the ride height) - Side and rear sun blinds for the trunk windows - Silver G11/G12 steering wheel buttons - Deactivate the electric sound when speed below 20 km/h so its silent - M Performance exhaust or something - ASD tuning (530hp) The car: - Carbon black - Full leather merino coffee - Black alcantara headliner - Dark wood open pored - 2 axle air suspensions - Integral active steering - BMW Drive recorder - Glass controls - Laser lights - Acoustic glazing - Night vision - Massaged and ventilated seats - Sky lounge - Rear seat entertainment - Bowers & Wilkins - Driving assistant professional - Parking assistant professional - Comfort access - Soft close doors - Heat comfort package (both seats, steering wheel and arm rests) - Towing hitch - Display key - Ambient air package - Integrated garagedoor opener - DAB tuner - Apple CarPlay - WiFi Hotspot - Side sun blind for the rear doors - +++ Some pictures from the configurator. Can't wait to get it..

Thanks!
In first the car will get production in June with delivery the last week in July. Since the late production date, I said to the dealer I want MY2021 instead, so they will delay the production for the first week in August and then probably delivery late September.

As I know for now, its no difference between MY2020 and MY2021. I just want it to be newest as possible, and since it will be a late MY2020 anyway, I prefer to got an early MY2021. The dealer will let me know if its any differences between this so I can change it before it going in production.

Interesting to read all the modifications you are planning! Do you have an idea about the replacement of the right side mirror with a RHD mirror? (Cost/work involved?)
I am also frustrated with the fact it doesn't dim any more. |

Thanks! The mirror glass communicate with LIN-bus, so you can connect the new UK mirror glass on the LIN-bus inside the mirror or swap it with whole UK mirror. I did this on my 2019 i3S.

Wow..really expensive order and plans...fully loaded plus extras..in my opinion with all that equipment and after retrofit...you could go for performance M50d or M50i...or even higher for full M model.

Probably for fiscal reasons. In Belgium for example, cars of this price class are usually only bought as company cars, and any car with high CO2 is taxed through the roof, while the 45e is 100% deductible and has much less negative effect on your personal taxes.

Not possible in many EU countries with CO2 based tax, here the 45e starts at 86.000 Eur while M50i starts at 161.000 Eur, factory options are also more expensive with higher emissions.

Still we are taxed to drive a car the is registered to our own company en this is based on co2. The difference with a 30d is 7-9 k a year and costs and leasing like mentioned are 100 % deductible vs 50% on a 30d. Road taxes are lower to. So this makes it a much better deal compared to a 30d or 40i. |

In fact, the total cost of ownership over 5 years. When taking into acount the corporate and personal taxes, was between a 520d and a 530d for me.
And based on my driving profile (long vs short distances) the hybrid was a fairly good match. So far, consumption is more than reasonable and I still need to invest in charging infrastructure at the office. So still some upward potential. |

My point is long term value...in 4-5 years X5 M50d or M50i will get 50 percent of original value...on the other hand 45e will only go to garbage with 100 percent loss...i wonder who will buy used hybrid car with used batteries and new tech that will come in next 5 years..on the other hand market for used M performance vehicle will always exist at least in Eastern Europe...

An 2015/16 X5 M50d costs EUR 70 000 and for the 40e we talk about EUR 55-60 000. The hybrid models actually have very good value as used in Norway. And why should you go for an used M50d with 4 turbos that cost a shitload of money WHEN they brake down. Actually, people here don't want them because of the extreme high cost to own them. So if we look at the 4-5 years old M50d and 40e and looks at original value at EUR 180 000 and 110 000 EUR, the M50ds value has 62% loss, and the 40e 45-50% loss. I have an 2014 i3 60ah with 85 000 kilometers on the odometer. the battery capacity are still good, and I love my 2019 i3S. Give me an electric G05 X5 and I´ll cancel the order of the 45e faster than I can say hello.

There already is a significant market for second hand electrics and hybrids, and it will only grow from here on out. Batteries may degrade somewhat but they _should_ last longer than 5 years. (First gen tesla model s still drive just fine today) Of course, I may be rationalizing my own purchase, but for me the 45e was the only sane choice if I wanted to drive an x5. You could also argue that the way things are progressing in Europe, nobody will want to buy a diesel 5 years from now. Or maybe not. It's anyone's guess at this point |

Generally the car lose 30-40% of value by driving out the garage. And 10% a year after that. For big cars with polluting engines it is even worse because they are more difficult to sell. If you check AutoScout24 value after 5y of a x5 is not 50%. It might be better in Eastern Europe like you mention. A 50d or 50i will be really difficult to sell in 4 - 5 years. In Western Europe anyway. And like you mention a 45e maybe even worse. |

I will be glad if I can sell it for anything at or above 30% of the buying price in 5 years time, and that seems pretty reasonable to me. I don't think any X5 diesel/petrol will depreciate less than the 45e will in the next 5 years (again, given the current situation in BE at least). |
