Still working or retired?
This is an active forum, the best kind to have. At times though I wonder if those who respond rather quickly during the work week are retired or at work but watch the forum. Thought I'd try a poll to see what percentage of us are in which group.
So, for the purposes of this poll, you can only vote in one category... 1. I am still working (this means you are basically working full time and have never retired) 2. I am retired (this means you are either currently retired or you retired but went back to work either full or part time) |

Semi retired. Sold my company when the going was good at 38yr. Now I work for “fun” as a consultant when I want. Now it’s all about my kids/family, hobbies and traveling. I like this forum and enjoy passing on info so I check in often. It’s winter for many of us so it’s a good escape this time of year.

I retired at 50 and then did consulting for a few years. Tried being fully retired but could only spend so much time working outside and on woodworking and really missed interacting with people. Now at 55 I'm doing something totally different, three days a week I work at Walmart doing stocking and absolutely love the work and the interaction with the customers. Last week I got selected to lead the team on the days the regular supervisor is off.
You just never know how things will turn out. For many years I had planned on retiring at 50 and enjoying the good life, turns out achieving that goal was not as fulfilling as putting on a blue vest, stocking shelves and helping people find canned beans. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that are the most satisfying. |

We carry those in aisle 14 and of course they are intentional, the wrinkles increase the flavor.

just turned 56 last week and will work until maximum, 59. will do something just to get out and be with people, but enough of the stress/pressure. i think i did find my "dream job" though LOL. when ordering my x5 was talking to the sales guy about just this topic - he's 26. he mentioned that a lot of retired guys work at car dealerships as "swap drivers". delivering cars/paperwork to other dealers. i'd be great at that! lol. they don't even have to pay me.
as far as the poll, still working as i mentioned but i primarily work from home so can always bounce on here or other sites during the day. |

Just some information for those younger folks looking at how there retirement will look. Medicare is not free.I pay $680.00 per month with no prescription coverage. I don't know if i was just totally uninformed as a young person but i thought when i hit 65 i would have no cost medical. It cost me more then when i was 64 and when you turn 65 they wont take you in the conventional market.
Just information one needs to know for retirement planning. |

Interesting thread matching up assumptions we have of individuals with reality. Retired five years now finding biggest challenge is filling time with things I want to do. Play golf twice/week in season (temp has to be above 50); became master gardener (an exaggerated title); developed auto detailing interest/curiosity (its how I relax); mentoring two sons (both happen to have same profession as mine); attending grandchildren events (a joy); volunteering (community board, mentoring); chauffeuring wife to wherever she wants to go (my best friend); exercising at the Y (hate it).
In all honesty, I miss the excitement of a professional career. Thought about consulting but hesitant to make long term commitment. Big challenge is adapting to physical limitations (the "cat like reflexes" are gone) and while I would love to play more golf or work in the garden and detailing cars, the back refuses to accept. Have to work a little harder finding things to get excited about: a big motivation behind opting for the M50i. This forum has made it all that much more interesting and educational for which I am grateful. |

Funny thing is now job opportunities seem to fall in my lap from participating more in my hobbies from being retired. Last edited by MystroX5; 02-21-2020 at 08:29 AM.. |

Retired and loving it, after two full careers (actually, three). Seventh decade, and picking up where I left off of a variety of former "hobbies!"

Yes, hobbies are important in life and more than just to add fun or pass the time! I was at Apple for 28 years and left in 2009. One thing led to another and I found myself turning a videography hobby into a second career. Now I work part time and still have time for my other diversions, among them are golf, amateur theater, and restoring vintage audio.
My dad never cultivated hobbies and at 91, still works some. Not because he has to, because he's got nothing much else to do. He's quite healthy and could pursue hobbies if he had them. Find and cultivate your hobbies. You never know what life may bring. |
