Rear brakes need an upgrade FAR sooner though. I can't believe BMW is still installing those same single piston cast calipers on the rear.... PARTICULARLY on the X5M..... that's just embarrassing and shameful. |

Here are the part numbers for the front and left. X3M Front Left: Disc Brake Rotor - BMW (34-11-8-054-825) https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...MtMGwtbDYtZ2Fz X3M Front Left: Disc Brake Rotor - BMW (34-11-8-054-826) https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...MtMGwtbDYtZ2Fz They are $350 each which isn't awful. The problem is the rear caliper is definitely not the exact same part number as the G05, so we would have no way to know if that fits without test fitting it. While the diameter and width of the rotors are the same... that doesn't necessarily mean that the....... "offset"??? Is the same. Not sure what term is used to describe the offset or "ET" of a rotor is.... but similar to a wheel, it matters. Then.... there is the hub diameter to consider as well. Not sure if they are the same. That would also cause non-interchangeability. It is perfectly feasible to consider that the much heavier X5 has a larger hub, larger bearings, etc than the X3 does. Maybe not.... maybe they fit perfectly.... but there is more to consider than just diameter and thickness of the rotor |

It's understandable though. A typical BMW driver can't and won't turn a wrench to save their lives, unless they are an enthusiast, which is generally reserved for full-M cars. Plus, the non-M G05 isn't exactly an "enthusiast" car, so aftermarket companies aren't as willing to invest in R&D. However... the X5M came out much later, and relatively recently, and I foresee a LOT of interchangeability between aftermarket parts..... which is a good thing. X5M production numbers are low, so it may take a while..... but I believe we'll start to see much more aftermarket support for our cars within the next year. I suppose you can always cover the car in adhesive-backed fake carbon fiber stick-on parts??? LOL Ebay is full of them

Sooooo...... wheels should be arriving any day now, and I had a day off, so I figured why not go ahead and install my BBM lowering links. I figured I'd start with a moderate drop, because it's much easier to adjust them to the new wheels, than it is to do a full installation AND adjust them.
Dropped the front 1/2 inch Dropped the rear 1 inch. First picture - OEM SPORT MODE Second picture - BBM SPORT MODE Third picture - BBM LOADING MODE I'm doing a full write up, installation instructions, and specific measurements calculation in the suspension forum. Easiest suspension job I've ever done in over 25 years. Less than 2 hours,.and that was including taking pictures, documenting lengths and ride heights, and adjusting...... for about 100 bucks? Lol When I know that a traditional suspension takes 8-12 hours (I know, I've done at least 15 full suspension jobs)... and leaves your back sore, knuckles bloody, and costs thousands of dollars worth of parts??? Shiiiiiiiittttt....... I'l probably never buy a car without air suspension again. Way too easy. Lol Last edited by Ninefourteener; 08-17-2020 at 06:23 AM.. |

A write up with instructions would be so amazing to have! I intended on having links installed at a shop but if it's easy enough (which you say it is) I may just do it myself. Let us know if there are any particular tools that most people do not have in their garage...

So..... the place I bought my tires (and installation) is closed until Sept 1st. Apparently they go on holiday for the entire month of August every year. Because..... Europe. Uggghhhh.
So.... I've got a 10-day wait before I can get them installed. I'm actually going to post up an entirely different thread, because I am SO impressed with Vossen as a company. They went WAY above and beyond to get these to me. In the meantime.... I had to open and check for damage. Just to be safe. They are absolutely GORGEOUS. ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS. I couldn't be more impressed. And..... the wait is over, and it's no longer a surprise as to what the ET/offset is. I intentionally didn't specify what I wanted, because there's no information out there on the correct fitment on a set of wheels this wide. So.... I left it to the experts at Vossen to make that determination. These MFers are going to look like BEASTS. This is a SUPER aggressive fitment, and will likely require a bit more tweaking of my droplinks to set the ride height perfectly. I'm looking forward to it. 22x10.5 front, ET 19 22x12 great, ET 20. That means, they'll poke out about 15 and 20mm more than my current setup.... or 30mm and 40mm more than stock fitment. B E E F Y. More to follow in 10-ish days. |

Most aggressive offsets I've seen so far! Keep the pics coming.

So.... it's been rainy, cold, and haven't had the opportunity to do the full brake caliper re-coloring, re-adjusting of droplinks, etc.
No change today in the grey weather..... but I couldn't stand just staring at them in the garage. They had to go on. Car is filthy, tires still have Install goop, cloudy grey day, and I'm a shitty photographer anyway. Wish I could show the "pop" of the color..... it's impressive. Not on a dark, cold, rainy day though. Can't wait to get some "sunlight" pics. But..... I'm incredibly pleased with these.
