Ceramic Windshield Tint (moonroof too)

Hi folks,
I have 20% on front windows, clear film over all rears & windshield and 70% over hatch. Nothing on moonroof. Used the “best” Xpel IR heat rejection film or so I’m told.

Issues:
(1)Fronts look lighter from most angles due to windshield light.
(2) Even with headliner closed, I can feel the heat radiating from overhead moonroof.

Questions:
Can anyone speak to going with 50% on windshield or otherwise? Visibility, legal vulnerability, efficacy, etc? Or is a better solution maybe going down to 15% on front windows to compensate?

Also, advice on the moonroof in light of all the controversy of shatter risk?

I have 70% Xpel Ultimate Plus on my moonroof and windshield. 45% everywhere else. Pretty decent heat rejections all around.

No issues with the sunroof in over a year.

I went with 70% on the recommendation of the XPEL installer. Said too dark might build up too much heat. Not sure how legit that is.

it's a legit statement. on my soapbox, but not sure on the heat -soak-, how that play a role in the rubber sealing bits of the cassette due to the heat soak...as well as the infamous topics of exploding sunroofs..

I went with 50% uptop. Ceramic basically soaks the heat into the glass - aka, the heat doesn't transfer past the film. The darker you go, the more it's going to block/absorb. vs. bypassing some of that heat past the glass.

I just installed 5% ceramic on the pano roof 2 months ago. I can leave it open all the time, sun doesn't bother anyone now. I wish I did it a year ago.

Im sure you already had your windows tined, but thought I would chime in with my tints. I did ceramic all the way around.

20% on the front windows. Almost exact match the factory tint on the rear windows.

50% tint on the windshield and pano roof.

Blocks the heat very well, and can leave the sunroof open and not even feel the heat coming through from the sun.

As for being legal, I think the front and windshield are illegal. This is my first time doing the windshield, but have had the front windows tinted on my previous cars, and have gotten pulled over once in the past 10 years, but that was for the lack of the front license plate, and the windows were an added bonus. Think it was a $40 ticket, and was on my way.

Tint laws vary by states. I’d be surprised if any state allowed tint on full front windshield. CA allows 70% on front windshield but only the first like 3-4 inches. I believe CA changed law to allow 70% on front driver and passenger window now. Before was illegal for any tint on the driver and front passenger.

Tint your windshield unless you live in a state that does safety inspections. I have 45 on mine, also the Xpel Ceramic. I have tinted all three of my last cars windshields. Ask anyone who has it, you'll never own a car without it again.
I also put 15 on the moon roof. Can not even tell its there now, as far as sunlight or heat. I also put 50 over the factory tint on the rears.

Some states allow tinting of the windshield up to a certain percentage with an optometrist prescription I.e astigmatism since it's beneficial for the driver at night

i put it 70% on windshield and 30% on the front.

when i did my wifes aviator, they did 50% on the back and rear, 30 on the front and 50 on the windshield. and this shop used a nano ceramic.

both blended nicely. but i think the nano ceramic is doing a bit better job on the heat gain.

Your front windows look lighter because the rear windows are 15% or 16% and the light coming in from the front windshield. My two front windows are 15% llumar and they match the rear perfectly. I have an 80% front windshield.
