What sunglasses work with Assist Plus hands off?

I've been trying to find sunglasses that are compatible with the Assist Plus up to 85mph on my x5 50e.

It seems that polarized ray bans will NOT work with this system as the polarization must block the eye reading infrared lights the system uses.

Any specific brands / models of sunglasses that have worked without limiting the assistance?

I haven't tried any sunglasses that *haven't* worked. Maui Jim polarized, POC unpolarized, Rudy Project unpolarized all were fine.

I have polarized Ray Ban's and have not had a problem operating DAP Assist+. Now if I could just see the HUD with them....

Ditto. Never had an issue. Also found out that if I rest my knee against the wheel lightly it makes the system happy and frees up my hands. I don't use it much, typically just when highway driving for a long time and I need to eat lunch... or reach in the backseat and reprimand my child safely lol

Polarized prescription sunglasses worked for me as well. However HUD difficult to read.

I just ordered non polarized sunglasses. Should get them this weekend and will know the difference.

With the steering wheel where you like it, can you clearly see the camera at the top of the instrument panel? If you can't see it, the camera can't see you.

Yep, works without sunglasses. This is bizarre no one else has had any issues, maybe most recent OTA fixed it.. or I need to do a better job of cleaning my sunglasses off

I haven't had any issues with the driver assist camera with polarized vs. non-polarized sunglasses. They both seem to work.

I've found what can confuse the camera is direct sunlight hitting the driver's face, especially from the side. I think it struggles when sunlight coming in from the side illuminates the eye behind the sunglasses. Like the rest of the driver assist stuff, I've had to learn its limitations and know when it's likely to fail.

The HUD, on the other hand, doesn't like my polarized sunglasses very much. I can see it, but it's really dim unless I rotate the HUD to such a degree that it's nearly impossible to use.

You might consider having your dealer look at it. I had a loaner 530e that seemed to offer to activate hands-off mode far more frequently and quickly than my 45e does. Hard to know since I don't have a time machine to go back and drive that same place and time with my 45e, but it "felt" like it offered to drive more often.

I kept getting warnings for not paying attention. I assumed it was my sunglasses.

Took them off and had same issue.

Turns out the steering wheel was positioned a bit to low. Adjusted that and haven't had warnings with or without sunglasses.

Might try that?

Watching this - Persol Polarized don't work

Hello all!
I just got my X5 50 E 2024. It's a beautiful car! I was testing the autonomous drive and it very clearly didn't like my sunglasses. It worked great when I took them off - but when I put them on, there was a message saying it couldn't see my eyes. I'll test a couple other pairs I have, but that's a bummer.

If you accidentally cover the center sensor, it will quit nagging you and then it will still lane keep as long as you keep your hands on the wheel. Yes, it eliminates the fully hands free, but it allows me to look at the radio for more than two seconds without dinging and driving my wife crazy. I can still see with my peripheral vision.

I did some more testing. Certain sunglasses do not work with assist plus. No idea why. In my case it was a specific model of rayban Polarized. Switched to a different pair and all is good now. That was the only variable

I just bought a 2025 and it hates my iridium red oakley sunglasses (basically mirrored), works fine if I take them off, so guess I need to go shopping for something else.

I use prescription polarized sunglasses called Drive Wear and the DAP works well with both my 21 and 24 X5.
