Congrats! The red looks nice. I'm about to hit my 1200 mile and bring it in for break-in service. I went with the metallic white with Ivory/Blue interior, and it has a very airy feeling, which is incredible. I also went with the Aluminum Crossline, which I was worried about, and I'm happy with it. Good luck with yours, and never look at the MPG, remember SPG; Smiles Per Gallon

Hi. Wow Ivory blue was my 1st choice but I have 6months kid so I changed it to brown. Nice spec!

You have to go in servis after the break in? As I remember nobody told me with my 540i but I went to service to change the oil after 2500kms.
Or with M models you must?

Regards

I have a couple of kids as well, but I'm not too worried about it. I used to stress about it and have darker interiors to mask messes, but they still show. You have to bring in your vehicle for the break-in service so they can change out the mineral oil with full synthetic they use as the break-in oil along with everything else. Allegedly, the break-in service unlocks an additional 100 or so horsepower. They reduce power until the first service.

unlocking more power after break in service is a myth. I've had multiple M cars and they felt exactly the same before and after break in service. As much as I wish it were true its not unfortunately.

That is super interesting, I just dropped mine off and the SA read to me what his computer was saying. He said removal of first service limiter... Now I wonder what that actually means. I just got home and will pick it up maybe tomorrow if I get time, I'll try to dive deeper into what that actually meant.

There are people that say that you can't use launch control until the break in service but I've never verified it for myself.

Mine wouldn't let me select the M2 button that you have to hit twice. I my self did not try launch. Not sure I am brave enough so early on lol.

Just picked mine up today after break-in and I will say it's faster...for sure. My SA, service rep, and master tech (came out and asked me about my front plate bracket) all told me that they limit the power until break-in service. I would say from "normal" 0-50 percent throttle there is no change. However, full throttle with and without the kickdown is noticably more violent.

Interesting stuff. I took my 2019 m5 to the drag strip several times before the 1200 mile service. And then many times more after. Same et. Same trap speed. Must be an x5m thing.

There are others like you in the past that did the same before and after drag strip runs and there was no difference. I would imagine its a legal thing too if bmw sells you a car they advertised has X performance but to find out it actually doesn't for the first 1200 miles until you bring it in for service you would need to disclose that somewhere.

Also imagine all the car reviewers will all have to make sure the car has over 1200 miles on the odometer to get accurate performance out of the car or BMW will risk negative press because of this power limitation. Just my 2cents.

Nice! I didn't know this interior color was available on the X5M . I was planning to purchase a X5 M50i with this interior specifications. I ended up getting the X5M competition instead with the silver stone interior. I think your chosen interior is one of the best interior combinations offered.

Yes, I've gotta say that mine feels faster after break-in. Spoke with my SA about it and he said it's just a "free oil change" and didn't mention anything about unlocking extra HP. Also, but my good friend from back in the day is a tenured mechanic at my local dealer, I'll ask him next time I'm there.

That being said, my car does feel faster (read: more throttle when you push it), but I was careful for the first 1500 miles or so, thus YMMV.

I don't even recall ivory blue being an option when I was speccing mine out. It looks quite regal. My compliments.

My SA told me the RIS would unlock additional performance. When I repeated it here, I was called out for perpetuating the myth. I honestly don't know what the truth is at this point with this particular vehicle. I wish we had definitive answer on this topic.

I think it's a myth! Only thing I heard makes sense is type of oil they use initially is not the same viscosity as the one bmw puts into our cars.
The reason is it's special oil to get rid of metal shavings or residues in the engine. Not sure how true is that! But if it is , it has some sense, why we feel the difference . I personally didn't feel anything , but anyways I didn't push it before break in so I won't know

I operated under the same rules and didn't push pre RIS. Of course it felt faster afterwards as I buried the pedal a d took it to redline.

My BMW service center told me the 1,200 mile service does not unlock any additional power. I believe them. However, my X5M certainly felt more powerful to me after the service. Having said that, I think it was because I literally babied the engine during the break in period and then let loose after the 1,200 mile service so I therefore did not have a true basis of comparison.

I think they change the engine and diff factory oil to the less viscous synthetic one. That's why the car feels more nimble

I heard the same from two different (dealerships) BMW service/tech guys!
