BC Forged Wheels -> Inbound

Just got notified my wheels are ready to ship. Super stoked. Expecting delivery in about a week.

I worked directly with BC Forged out of Florida, and couldn't ask for better customer service.

I ordered these exactly 3-weeks ago today.

Jonathan worked with me on offset options, wheel widths, and tire options.

Ultimately I ended up copying someone else on the forum (no shame here, thanks jayhawk785).

I'm sticking with OEM Pirellis on the rear and going with 295/30/22 for the front.

Specs:
Front 22x10.5 (et 30)
Rear 22x11.5 (et 24)

Currently I'm running a 15mm spacer on the back, but this wheel is supposed to be the equivalent of a 20mm spacer as far as pushing the face of the wheel outward. The front will be very close to stock, however I'm playing with the idea of leaving my 12mm spacer on. I wanted a noticeable difference between wheel concavity, but couldn't achieve that if I adjusted the offset to match my stock setup with spacers on the front. The front and back would have been too close in concavity.

When I do the install I'll see what it looks like with and without front spacers. I like the wider stance on the front, but want the shallow concavity.

These are going on a 2021 Toronto Red X5MC. Currently lowered on MSS (rear 10mm & front 0mm) and a newly installed Streckenn front splitter.

(meant to place this post under wheels/tires, not sure how to do that now)

Beautiful! I am browsing their wheels now, and I like what I see. I am in the hunt to go for a 21/21 setup so I can run A/S tires.

Right on. I had heard of them before, but never investigated until about 8 weeks ago.

I was impressed with the options, and the reviews I read from various forums had nothing but good things to say about the quality....and they're forged.

Good luck!

Did they etch the load rating onto the back of the wheel ?

You know, I didn't even stop to look. Maybe I assumed when I shouldn't have. So the wheels are custom, and I sat on the phone with the rep for a good hour. They're are forged and the company has been around for quite some time.

Good rep.

I guess I'll find out the hard way.

Looks like they are JWL & VIA certified. Looking at OEM wheels, 818s are manufactured in Taiwan (probably TUV & JWL?)

Asking because our annual inspection can cause an issue if the wheels are not etched with a load rating. The factory wheel should have a casting load number around 1900lbs per wheel. Some aftermarket companies mark them, some do not. Does not mean they are weak, just not marked.

Hi, no this is a great question that had me poking around my vehicle, documentation, and Google last night. Thank you for bringing this level of awareness to the forum.

We spend decent cash for something that's overkill for an SUV, so if we choose to veer away from OEM it really should be done right.

I just got off the phone with my rep from BC Forged and he did validate each application is load rated to the specific platform. There are tolerances for weight but also performance/use.

He explicitly called out that the wheels far exceeded the OEM standards for the X5M (from the manual: front - 1,440, rear - 1,585).

I did actually see the certificate for BC Forge's JWL rating last night. Obviously companies can fake these ratings sort of like food growers can fake "organic" labeling.

From what I've seen, BC Forged has been around for a long time. I've seen Rennlist users who claim to have purchased multiple sets for their Porsches...likewise the same for Ferrari, McLaren, etc.

I was a bit put off that they were manufactured in Taiwan, but I also realize Taiwan generally has a reputation for higher output with higher quality vs. many other outsourced locations. This particular brand happens to take this very seriously.

Then last night I discovered BMW sources their M wheels through Taiwan...so...LOL.

Anyone reading this forum 100 years from now, just know, you can buy with confidence. Seriously though, you should simply just call BC Forged. The customer service is beyond anything I've experienced in quite awhile. You do get the feeling of 100% transparency.

I hope this helps!

Yes, yes, yes...I did post pics on the x5Ms spotted thread. I'm posting pics here for potential wheel buyers who are trying to figure out widths, offsets, and styles. It beats paging over 47 times!

Fitment update

When you view the post-install pics, keep in mind that I removed my 15mm spacers from the rear. I kept the front 12mm spacers on.

I went with a 24ET on the rear. Because I kept the OEM wheel width (11.5), this had the effect of moving the face of the wheel (I guess really the whole wheel) 20mm outward (5mm more than OEM with 15mm spacers).

On the fronts, I chose to go with OEM width (10.5) and almost OEM ET. OEM ET is 31, I went with 30ET. I did this because I wanted a very exaggerated concavity disparity between front and rear. I know a lot of us really don't want spacers (myself included), but the truth is I'm not going to track this vehicle and my modifications meet my requirements for internal smiles when I see my "M".

That said, regular, safe road use will not find the front spacers to be an issue. Regardless, the 12mm spacers remain on the front to push the face of the wheel toward a "flush" appearance to match the rears...while keeping a very aggressive concavity difference.

If you attempt to adjust the ET on the fronts to grab that "flush" look, you will also gain more concavity as the bolt face of the wheel approaches the centerline of the wheel barrel (where ET is based off of). So the entire process is about trade-offs. Sort of like photography and exposures (please don't get me started on this one).

I hope this information helps someone else.

Here they take the vin sticker with the highest GAWR axle rating , 3494lbs for the rear, divide that by 2 to get per wheel load , so 1747lbs per wheel minimum load capacity to be safe if it is max loaded. Inspection crazy.

This is what they are inspecting. Picky stuff. X3MC wheel rating.

The pictures and fitment of your forged wheels are killing me. Very temping, especially since they are forged. Strong and lightweight.

Sorry for the late response...busy busy busy with work.

So I'm not sure, but my guess is the OEMs weight closer to 70lbs? The BC Forged were shipped with a weight of 41lbs.

When I get a chance I can get a real weight on OEMs...but they feel about double the weight.

Quick fact I found out over the weekend. The OEM 809s are cast wheels, while the 818s are forged. Both made in Taiwan.

Someone posted a page directly from the tech manual that clearly displays this. I was blown away that BMW would fit cast wheels to an M car....but maybe the X5M is really only an M car in name. Mmmmm. I mean, it's not like it's a real contender on the track. It has tricks, but really? Anyway, food for thought.

Bottom line, you have a killer set of wheels that are even stronger than OEM cast.

If you had the 809’s they are cast and roughly weigh 40lbs each front and 45lbs each rear. Very heavy.

I’ve not seen a weight for the 818M forged wheel, but if they are in the ballpark of the M5 forged wheel, adjusted for size, they should be 34/39. A weight savings, but not as light as your wheels.

Okay, so I finally grabbed a minute to weigh the OEM 818s.

Front: 35lbs
Rear: 40lbs

LOL I like how my guess was something like 30lbs heavier than this. Even picking them up, it felt like more. I lift on a regular basis, so you would think I might have a clue...nope.

Anyway, the scale does not lie.

Good question. Sadly I did not weigh the new wheels before having them installed. That said, I picked up the 22x11 and recall that it was insanely light.

The shipping weight is not reliable because I'm pretty sure they use an inflated weight to cover pretty much every application (41 lbs)...plus there's no way in hell the new wheels weight as much as the OEM.

To be fair, I'd shave off 10-15lbs and call that accurate.

Someone from an Audi forum did weigh their 21x12 wheels and they came in at 24lbs.

This is still pretty significant.

The first time I drove the beast with the new wheels I recalled thinking the steering was much lighter.

The vehicle also appeared to stop a little easier. You can definitely feel reduced momentum when you first drive it after swapping out. Of course, now it feels normal.
