I got close with my USB pack but it won't supply 14v for very long, my m340 had this problem for 3/2023 and dealer had to update but I sold it to a friend and he had no problem updating with OTA without connecting anything. Nor did any of my x3 m40i friends. I had hoped my m850 would be solved as well. I only have small 1-4a battery tender devices and they won't supply enough to please the car.

I don't see an AGM mode, are you sure that has one? If not I wouldn't use it.

I understand but it is an AGM battery so AGM battery chargers/maintainers are what is recommended.

While the update was installing on my car, the car was requesting between 10A-30A during the update at 14.0V.

I would avoid using that one also since it is designed for LiOn batteries and not AGM. Occasional use probably will not hurt.

I followed:

(1) I plugged the trickle charger, waited until fully charged. ~12 hours
(2) I checked iDrive, but no message to upgrade software.
(3) iDrive off. I used Bimmerlink and cleared all errors (not just the head unit errors, but all). Charger still connected. iDrive on, no message to upgrade.
(4) Let trickle charger top off the battery again
(5) I repeated step #3 again
(6) This time I got the install prompt when I turned on iDrive, I accepted, let it upgrade.

I used a Schumacher SC1281 to charge the battery and left connected during the above process.

Agreed.

I only use it to maintain 14.0V voltage for updating and programming, after I use my 4A Duracell Battery Charger (https://a.co/d/fChn8YQ) to charge it to 90-100%. That Duracell one should be good for AGM charging.

While that adjustable power supply may lack BMW "Approval", it does exactly what BMW recommends for charging.....charge at constant voltage. It is suitable for both AGM and Li-ion. User will have to set the voltage properly and pay attention to disconnect charger when charge is complete.

Charge AGM at constant 14.8v until current reaches to 2.5 amp.
Charge Li-ion at constant 14.0v until current reaches 2.5 amp.
