Digital License Plates

I haven't seen any threads on this, so apologies if a duplicate.

If I had more money than I could spend I might get one. My brother has one on his blacked out Land Rover and it looks pretty cool. I haven't noticed any other one in the wild yet. Has some cool features but the cost is pretty rediculous.

If I were a criminal and stole a car with a plate like that, I would just remove it and print out temp paper plates and put it on the rear window. No one checks those and on SUVs you can't even see the numbers with the heavy tinted rear window. I'm surprised the DMV still requires it to be posted on the rear window when issuing temp numbers.

I don't see them mentioned in that thread. This isn't a decal, it is an lcd screen.

One of the features is that if you notice your car is stolen you can change the plate to show it is a stolen vehicle with an app on your phone. Obviously as soon as the thief notices that they would remove the plate. Your expiration stickers, plate numbers, are also over the air updates.

oh my bad! i didn't click on your thread above but just noticed it's a digital screen. I think that's also only in California

Its indeed interesting, looks like its now legal in AZ and MI too. Of course my inner twelve year old is now trying to figure out how I could electronically swap plate numbers James Bond style....

Monthly fee is a killer let alone the installation costs. Definitely looks cool on darker vehicles.
