M60I - Resonator Delete

Just curious if anyone has done a resonator delete on an M60I? Really would like more sound.

I have just ordered an M60i for April delivery, however, i have looked under the car at the dealer and its all the same. should be a simple cut out and straight pipe like my original resonator delete post of M50i

Hopefully this will be a dose of testerone. No way this M60i should sound like a Prius.

So, I had a local shop weld in an x-Pipe in place of resonator. Will try and post up a link to a few clips tomorrow. Gave it a very slight increase in sound especially at lower rpm, but not quite what I’m looking for. Still sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Tempted to do a muffler delete next.

Would love to hear what it sounds like!

I second seeing a video of this resonator delete. I have searched YT ad nauseam and cannot find this on an M60.

It would be nice to see one with the M60i under load with the resonator delete.

While reviewing every M50 and X5M resonator delete video I could find, I am uncertain the resonator delete to xpipe swap will give me the sound I want. With that being said a muffler delete/straight pipes seems a bit too much and sometimes the sound is cheap sounding. Here is an example of one that sounds pretty good, although the cold start is a bit much for me.

Yeah, seems like some of the M3/M4 guys in this area are doing muffler delete and it sounds terrible and too loud. The stupid Cherry Bomb "glass packs" we used in high school sounded better than this trend.

Just set up an appt to do a resonator delete the Wednesday after Xmas. I will post up a video pre and post install. I’m not expecting much, but feel it’s the safest and least permanent option ATM.

Having second thoughts on the resonator delete. After watching more videos, it actually appears that leaving the stock resonator (keeps the “BMW” sound) and doing a muffler delete (amplifies the sound) is probably the better option for myself. In rewatching a few videos it seems the fart can noise comes from doing BOTH a muffler and resonator delete. This is the sound I most def do not want.

Planning on talking to the shop this morning and figuring out if this is actually the path I want.

On a side note, I did find 2 axle back options with valve controllers: RES Exhaust (Chinese brand) and RC Tuning ( I believe the owner is a member here). While both are considerably cheaper than Dahler, they are not cheap, ~$2K.

It's a tough decision for sure. I've kicked around a lot of ideas including leaving the resonator and replacing the big ass muffler with some straight through vibrant resonators (have done this on cars before). Ultimately I decided electronic cutouts are the way to go.

How are you liking the cutouts? Did you install or have a shop install them?

I haven't gotten them installed yet, hopefully soon! Will be having a shop do it.

Starting to waffle now, just heard this one and it sounds good, albeit a bit too loud for my taste:

Have you guys seen the secondary down pipes posted in another thread? Curious why more people aren’t trying that. I’ve been on the verge of pulling the trigger on an m60i but the exhaust sound……… Interested to see reviews/feedback on the secondary down pipes.

The m60 is a solid car. Exhaust will come, so don’t not buy it simply because nothing is readily available.

This is probably the best idea.

I agree generally but based on a quick search of this forum it doesnt appear there are exhaust options for the m50i. Makes me skeptical exhausts will be made for m60i anytime soon.
