The military discount changed this year, it depends on what part of the country you are in. For the X5 for the Western region it is $1,500 and the rest of the country is $2,000. TrueCar just shows the $1,500 even though it will be higher in most areas of the country.

How does the Pen Fed discount work? That is, where does the money come from? Does BWMNA underwrite it or does the dealer have to absorb it off the deal?
I'm sitting on an MSRP quote from my local dealer for a factory build of a non-M X drive with no budge in price except the "loyalty discount" $1000. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

It was BMW's domestic military incentive and came from BMW with no dealer participation involved. BMW discontinued having a PenFed membership as one of the ways to qualify for it. If you, or a family member, served in the military then you can get the incentive from BMW's site, TrueCar or through NFCU.

Most deals nowadays are at MSRP but shops around. If you want to do PCD then you can buy from any dealer in the country. Keep in mind though, many will only sell to locals.

USAA dropped their car buying service a few years ago so you can no longer get the military incentive through their site. When you use ID.me on BMW's or TrueCars site you can use your USAA credentials to verify that you are qualified for the incentive.

I wanted to use my father in-law's USAA status to apply to an M4 in PA (assuming my wife would be co buyer), but since USAA no longer has the car buying service, are you saying this will no longer work?

No, not saying that at all. What I'm saying is that the domestic military incentive is no longer available through USAA's website since they dropped their car buying service. Being a USAA member is still one of the ways to qualify for the incentive but the person whose name is on the certificate is the person that needs to be the purchaser. Your wife should qualify to be a member of USAA and/or for the incentive through her father's association with the military. What she should try first is going to TrueCar's military page and trying to qualify using ID.me. If that doesn't work then she should apply for a USAA account, she will just need her dad's USAA number, and once she has that then can use her USAA credentials to apply for the incentive using ID.me.

The domestic military can stack but the amount can change. Except for the Western region, the amount drops to $500 when using BMWFS like it has in the past. For the Western region it now drops to $250 for a lease but went up to $1,500 for financing.

Once you are qualified then you can print an offer code certificate which will show the amount for each eligible model.
