Not sure if that is feasible. The f15 35i does have exhaust flaps unless u buy tips w/o flaps.

I used the Carly device to open the flap and then pulled out the fuse while it was open. Im pretty sure that its permanently open now without having to go through the hassle of pulling it while driving or pulling out the wire underneath the car.

On cold start does the flap open on a 40i?

I've done both.

I've tried through OBD and manually removing the sensor. I found that doing it through OBD It sometimes closes randomly versus the more permanent way doing it by pulling the sensor. I can DM a video on how to do this for anyone willing. Thanks.

There is a valve on the right exhaust. This is usually closed, until the engine gets above ~4000 rpm, then it opens. This valve is controlled by a servo motor. To see it you'll have to crawl under the right exhaust (don't do this right after driving, its hot!). You'll see a wire plugged into it. Put your car in park, put the car in sport mode and hit the gas hard. This will open the valve. If you shine a flashlight in there, you will see it open (the flap runs parallel to the exhaust pipe). Now, before it gets too hot, get back underneath the right exhaust and unplug the wire from the servo. Now the valve is permanently open. I then wrapped the exposed wire and the socket on the servo (kind of looks like a USB) in plastic and electrical tape to prevent it from getting wet, and taped it too the body so it didn't dangle below. A little ghetto, I know, but it sounds great and cost nothing. Has a nice growl and lots of pretty over-run burbles.

I'm assuming this will work with the X5 as well, as all the same components are there, and I plan on doing it when I receive my week 49 build.

If someone tries this, please post your results!
I previously had a muffler delete on the g05 which was unbearably loud for me so I reinstalled it. Either way, I had a muffler delete and the valve open mod. Recently, I decided to do the valve open mod again. Both times, I just unplugged the wire going to the valve when the car was off. I'm not quite sure why some say it's not the case for them, but to make sure I've tried this 5 times so far and all 5 times for me, regardless of engine being cold or warm, the valve is open by default when the car is off. For those that are trying to see if ur valve is open or not, u can easily tell since you would easily be able to feel the exhaust coming out of the right pipe.

Guys, that valve is there for a reason and its not for lower sounds.

Its designed to build back pressure and help with low end torque.

not a thing on a direct injected turbo engine. the flaps are there primarily for noise control

I mean...what you said is just untrue or misinformed. DI has nothing to do with it and using exhaust valves on a turbo engine helps its performance. There's a reason supercars having been doing it forever.

They help, when closed, with low end torque by increasing turbo induction exhaust backpressure.

When open at high RPM they help increase horsepower by allowing more freeflow.

Basically its win/win when using valved exhaust and it should be used even more so on a turbo'd engine.

Misinformed? Ooookay...

So two things: DI means a higher static CR, meaning less low end suffering for turbo motors while still being able to run relatively high boost vs what we used to run for those static CRs.

Second, and this is the bigger one, at no point has there been a need for backpressure on modern turbo motors. Some madlads decided to do the legwork and found out the ideal exhaust form is to start off large and unrestrictive, and conically increase its inner diameter as you approach the end so as to manage pulses effectively to help speed the exhaust along rather than letting it dwell or eddy anywhere along the path.

Even modern NA motors have gone the path of not really needing much in the way of backpressure to scavenge low end anymore, and turbos haven't needed any ADDED backpressure on account of the flow restrictors already present in the exhaust in the form of multiple cats. A couple small valves sectioning off a couple foot loop in the muffler will not increase backpressure in any meaningful amount. They're there to a) help follow specific noise regulations and b) help limit drone

I haven't had an NA car in 2 decades, I've modified every car I've owned, I've done the legwork. Simply put, spool is everything.

Fully open will perform best for any modern turbo car. The flaps are there to quiet the car for town driving

I tried using BimmerLink.. Very little difference in my 45e. So I will go custom exhaust and GPF delete soon instead with dual valve built into DME so I can control the exhaust with dynamic driving settings

Same here using BimmerLink as well on my 40i but not much of a difference TBH. Cold start sounds nice but once warm up, is pretty much the same. In exchange with the valve open, u get this drone sound which pretty annoying if you are driving for a long period of time on the highway. Personally, I have not experiencing any lose of torque(power, especially when I put the Pedal on the metal) or any fuel consumption with the valve open. But I do want to know if this has any real effect on it or not.

I had a 'mild to wild' switch on my C6 Corvette and it opens the center two butterfly valves in the quad exhaust. Sounds good and mean when driving at low speed or starting up, but as others have said, the drone on a long ride is a pain in the ass. If there were an easy option on the X5 I would get it, but need to be able to easily turn on or off from the driving seat. Getting underneath the car is a total non starter.

it barely does anything on the m50i, so I wouldn't get your hopes up
