The X5 came with 22" and know the tire pressure for that set. I moved to a 20" 275/45 and 305/40 Michelin's PA5 for the winter. How do you determine the right tire pressure? Currently they are set at 35 psi in the front and 42 psi in the rear. What should they be?

Hi X54TH,

If I am reading it correctly page 334 - 336 of the Owners Manual says for a 2019 X5 xDrive40i with two rows of seats "with Sport Package"

- Tire inflation pressure values "up to" 100 mph/160 km/h.
Front: 275/45 R20 .... 33 PSi
Rear: 305/40 R20 .... 39 PSi

-Tire inflation pressure values "over" 100 mph/160 km/h
Front: 275/45 R20 .... 41 PSI
Rear: 305/40 R20 ..... 45 PSi

BTW, I thought the 275/35/22; 315/30/22 recommended psi was 39/45. Did you find that too high?

Hey cdnBMW, how are you. I took another look and my reading was lower at 35 / 42. I guess I'm in the middle of those.I'll lower it. Thanks.

The door sticker for my 2019 X5 xDrive40i with two rows of seats "with Sport Package" says the recommended cold pressure is:

Front: 275/35 R22.... 38 PSi
Rear: 315/30 R22 .... 45 PS

I have been running the above psi without issue.

Kief, Sorry not sure of the correct PSI for your 2020 X5 M50i.

But the Owners Manual has the tire pressure for the 2019 X5 50i at and can only assume its similar for the 2020 X5 M50i.

- Tire inflation pressure values "up to" 100 mph/160 km/h.
Front: 275/35 R22 .... 38 PSI
Rear: 315/40 R22 .... 45 PSi

-Tire inflation pressure values "over" 100 mph/160 km/h
Front: 275/35 R22 ... 44 PSI
Rear: 315/30 R22 ... 49 PSI

Was the tire temperature always visible? Mine only has the pressure but no temperature!

I coded it using the BimmerCode App.

@bichoo!!?? You, of all people, we would have expected that to be coded long ago :-).

HU_MGU/3E52: RDC_DRUCK_TEMP set to druck_und_temperatur

I was pretty excited to add that at the start, but after a couple of months, ugh, whatever :-).

I have the temps noted here in the US without the need to code. Sorry for starting another thread below on 22" psi, but I just find 39/45 psi seems so high. Not sure why? I'm not overly concerned about comfort, rather lasting tire wear and avoiding a blow out bc they are set so high.

I'm like you, I found the tire pressure to be high. I went through our previous F15's tires quickly both (Summers and Winters) as a result of improper tire pressure. What bugged me is when the dealership blamed me. I reminded them that we stored the tires with them and therefore assumed that they had checked the pressure during the change overs and oil changes. In Canada the F15 TPMs didn't indicate the PSI. Now that the G05 Canadian model shows the PSI and temperatures I seem to be checking it regularly.

I'm a nut, and manually check the psi on all my tires weekly!! Haha
Another issue I have with the recommended 39/45 psi, is bc that's for five passengers and/or luggage. What's the recommended psi for just a driver and passenger?

Good point. I don't think we've had anyone in the back seat yet and I don't think the weekly groceries is much of a load to worry about.

I just took delivery of my 2020 X5 M5.0i. I have the 22" wheels with non-RF tires. Delivery tire pressures were set at 44/49 (F/R) and the ride feels harsh. When I check the tire pressure levels in iDrive, it also show the 'recommended tire pressure' which matched what the dealer used. From that same iDrive screen, I can 'set' the tire type and speed rating. It was set to all-season tires, and I changed it to summer and set the speed to 100mph+ (why not?). After making these adjustments, the recommended pressures went up to 49/52.

For comfort, I'll probably play with some lower pressure levels, but I don't like to deviate too far from recommended (although I recognize the recommendations are probably biased toward safety/liability avoidance).

FYI, I keep the tire pressure screen as one of my 8 preset buttons so I can easily check it.

My ML350 shows 45/48 on the door sill, but 32/32 on the fuel panel. I asked my SA about that and she said the door sill is for Europe meant for autobahn driving at full load, where as the fuel door shows US spec "every day" driving. Not sure if that sheds any light on this situation, but found it interesting there's such a spread on "accepted" tire pressure for that SUV.

Does anyone use the iDrive Tire Pressure Monitor figures instead of a good tire pressure gauge? When reading the manual, it looks like they have iDrive numbers as a method of checking. This doesn't make sense, since there is an option to reset upon filling. I always use a good digital gauge...

Those numbers seem crazy high. Here's a pic of the owners manual up to 100
And doesn't 52psi exceed the max psi on the tire itself, be careful!

Correction to my earlier post: what I thought was a change in recommended pressure because of the tire type I selected, appears to be the result of changing tire temperatures. In other words, the system is telling what your tire pressures should read based on their temperature, hotter = higher pressure. Makes sense and takes away the 'cold' pressure confusion for some folks.

Kief, I had selected 100mph+ which I believe would be a higher recommended pressure than at 'up to 100mph'.

I have a compressor and a quality digital gauge and maintain as needed. The iDrive readings are almost always right on my gauge readings, so I'm comfortable monitoring iDrive readings and filling up/rechecking manually whenever needed.

Not sure I follow you on the resetting comment. Resetting doesn't recalibrate the iDrive readings, if that's what you meant.

Sorry misspoke. I was under the impression you got the reading Cold on a digital gauge then hit the button in iDrive to measure the pressure. Then it basically reset itself based off your work with the digital gauge. I figured that’s why they were always so close, the iDrive reading and digital. I was just curious since it was in the manual.
