NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V684000 - 11/19/19

I copied the post below from a thread I have not been able to find again. In any event, anyone know if this campaign was initiated today as projected?

The issues this same type thing about a month ago, maybe they added more models into it as this is new.

I don't have it listed for mine on MyBMW or on NHSTA. I wonder if it is more than just software related and can be affected by hardware.

Edit: Perhaps 07/2019.55 has the fix in so that is why the recall is not listed.

Mine didn’t show up either, and when it went to the dealer it didn’t need any sort of recall fix. I thought it was all vehicles on the listed models, but I guess not.

They probably took care of the problem in a 07/2019.xx release and now the recall kicks in for those who have not received it. I think the 2020s had .32 when they first started being delivered so it would be interesting to see what version people who have the recall listed are running.

I received this notice yesterday in the mail but my software was updated several weeks ago to .53. I am due for my first annual service in February so I will mention it then. I have not noticed any issues with my camera so at this point it is a non-issue.

They are allowed to do your service early to combine it with other visits, which is good because you may be able to squeeze an extra "free" service in that way, so you don't have to wait till februari

Plan to schedule my annual service in January so I can go to the PA Car Show in Harrisburg while it's being serviced.

I can only speak for the US, but there is a new software version above 07/2019.70...not sure if it is 11/2019.xx, but I have it going in 12/23. When I spoke with my SA, he mentioned there was something new, but I didn't get anymore information. I figured I would give it a couple weeks to see if we get RSUs or if something new comes out.

Hoping to avoid the trip in!

You should be fine since I believe .53 has the recall fix in it. You wouldn’t have noticed the problem unless you were fooling around with the brightness and contrast settings.

So for this recall, they would upgrade the whole iDrive software?

.53 didn't have the recall. I have .55 and need to bring it in for the recall

If BMW would get their act together on the OTA updates - (at least on the 2020's where it is supposed to work) this would be a non issue.

I'm pretty sure it does. I have .55 and do not have to do the recall.

Edit: .53 does contain the recall. Here are the notes from lumpydog's service report:

"0066350100 B663319 Recall: Program Control Units (Rearview Camera) B66 33 19 19V-684 SIB 663319 states that vehicle needs to be programmes if I-level is lower than S18A-19-07-553 (where I-Level is your software release). Current vehicle I-level is S18A-19-03-535. Vehicle needs to be reprogrammed. "

Is this a thing? I thought the included maintenance was essentially limited to 3 oil changes. You would have to go in 4 months early each year while remaining under 36K miles to somehow squeeze in a 4th "free" service wouldn't you?

I brought mine in at 7800 miles for the software update and the service manager brought it up and they did the 10k service/oil change. The computer of course adapts the next service moment to be earlier too etc. It's not a guarantee you get a forth one in but you have a good chance. Their computer indicates when you're within the window. According to him it was BMW's effort to minimize people have to be coming in for different things different times.

I go in tomorrow and the reminder email includes this note:

Factory Recall Campaign - Rearview Camera Latest Software.

I asked about this during previous visits and was told not relevant to my vin so we'll see what happens now.

Unhappy

Has anyone had the software update done for this recall? I dropped my X5 off this afternoon to have it done while I was getting the winter tire set put on along with an oil change. I get a call from my SA, saying that they would need it over night because in the process of updating it, the system crashed. Not so thrilled, obviously. I haven't had one thing go wrong in the 5200 miles I've put on it until this (and was on iDrive 3.2019.47). I am NOT looking forward to the potential condition they may have left it in. :/ Keeping my fingers crossed!
