Interesting that there is already a replacement grill, that tells you the problem is epidemic. Not sure why they aren't offering it in black as no one will want the blinding reflection of stainless steel in their eyes but you can paint it before installation. |

The OEM grill should pry off as they have in prior years, if you are removing one, use only plastic pry tools, such as the ones used to remove the displays on smartphones, iPods, etc. |

I went with the B&W system. My center grill looks and feels very different than yours. I'm guessing it is aluminum that's either coated or anodized black.

I only use my shop vac....I am the shop vac queen. I have one for my 3 BMW's. One for inside my house. One for outdoors. And one for when my dog throws up...(labs? 💁*♀️). Anyway I just hold my shop vac hose high enough to not touch the speaker and it takes all the dust away. I live in Fairbanks Alaska....it is very dusty here. I agree the speaker is a cheap design.

So mine started to discolor (turn a bit white) for some areas. Will ask dealer to replace at next visit. Was looking up replacement part price and its around $90 and easy to replace. Out of curiosity checked price of the same items for models with Bowers & Wilkins and it's around $650 😳 I wonder why it is much more expensive. It's just a cover not speaker

Dealer orders the cover yesterday. I doubt they updated the material. He also said there are two service calls for the battery and the cornering lights. We will see what this update screws up. I am on 11/2018.49 and have not had any issues.

I'm taking mine in tomorrow to get the tires rotated and they are doing those two service actions on mine also. I would imagine we will go up to 03/2019.48 but maybe there is a higher one out. Things have been working well for me so hopefully that doesn't change.

This is funny, sort of...I was test driving a new, off the truck, X5 today and most everything looked like good quality materials. For some reason I noticed the center grill because it just looked terrible in the sunlight. It doesn’t even try to hide the parts underneath. Tapped it with my hand and couldn’t believe how tinny it felt and sounded. Definitely an afterthought on the design team, or maybe QC laid an egg. I’ve seen much better in a $25 door speaker grill from China.

Just mention it to the dealer next time you're in for an oil change. I'm sure they'll cover it under warranty.

Is the B&W center speaker grill made from the same material?

During the test drive I noticed the soft material behind the front center speaker plate which came through the holes. I thought some cover was missing or something but it is just bad design.

HK speakers in doors are metal too except for the dash. When I sat in an X5 with B&W, the dash definitely felt metal.
