Which bit?

Retrofit details are all over this board.

Coding 1CR does not activate remote engine start. Gets very close but no cigar. Looks like it needs an FSC that is not publicly available.

Good enough for you boss

My car starts in Sport Plus and from car opening, I have the big blue display. Then if you switch away from Sport and come back to Sport, then I have the little blue display. Can't get big blue display again until car is fully locked and unlocked.

But this is quite possibly just a bug that may well be fixed in 7/2019.xx (ie yours).
Mine is 07/2019.55
So I got 11/2019.40 installed yesterday. Alpina dash now stays blue (with awesome white background vignette around where the needles are at the time) and speedometer now calibrated. Looks pretty awesome with ADV as well. That's my "forever dash", for now :-).

That IC looks pretty good! Did you code ADV with Bimmercode?

Yes, iOS Bimmercode 3.4, KOMBI ECU Expert Mode (see below). I haven't had time to hook up ESys yet, but need to do that soon: software update cleared all coding, including even anti-dazzle FA coding.

ADV Coding:
- KOMBI, Expert Mode
- search for and set Aktiv each of:

CB_FZG_UMGEBUNG_FAS
CB_PRESELECT_NAVI_ANSICHT_FZG_UMGEBUNG
PIA_FZG_UMGEBUNG_FAS
SICHT_ABSICHT_ENABLE

How do you determine software version. November 2019 update coding also impacts the ability to tune the ecu via OBD. Bmw is going HAM.

"Interesting", but to the first question, find this spot in Settings/General:

Not sure if this is good news for you or not good news, but ... I am able to code it without issue and get the usual "0 errors" (code NCD with NCD file unchanged from just read). My file/version is: CAFD_00003D14_008_002_005. Let me know if I can send you any of my files to help to compare/diagnose.

Can you just 'Code' rather than Code NCD, so it's not using the launcher token, and can just be run from esys directly without launcher involved? That's the scenario I have the issue with for that new Ecu/cafd

I can try. Never done non-launcher before. Do I just start ESys directly, without going through ESysX launcher? Do I need to shut down ESysX launcher service before doing so?

Yeah just start esys with launcher closed. Connect, read SVT, right-click DSC_VIP_IB2 and choose Code.

This takes launcher out of the equation reducing risk, and is useful for getting things back to stock before a dealer visit.

Well, it is when it works

Ok, will test in a couple of hours. Last coding session got the battery a bit low, just put it on a charger, want to get it up a bit before coding.

I do know the difference between Code and Code NCD, but I just Code-coded most previously modified ECUs to stock before the dealer visit with the regular launcher approach. Is there really a difference between with launcher and without launcher for Code.

Thanks to KrisV I tried coding the Assisted Driving View and the Alpina dash tonight.

Like others have reported, I couldn't find KOMBI>3007>PIA_FZG_UMGEBUNG_FAS but it seems to work without this. I am MY2019 and in Canada if that makes any difference.

I used expert mode to change the logo for the Alpina dash to X5_M_PERF but I don't see anything. Has anyone resolved how to get the alternative logos to work?

I'm still only on 03/2019.53. Hoping OTA is rolled out before she has to spend another day at the dealer.

Ok, did Code (not Code NCD) and without a launcher. Works fine for me, no errors.

Thanks. Looks like they broke something when they flashed mine, or there is an issue with the *.34 version vs .40

Not sure how to demonstrate this as a dealer issue. Tricky one!

Wrt the differences between stock coding with/without launcher, the logic is that using vanilla esys removes any possible unnecessary developer interaction and it behaves exactly as BMW intended.

We only use launcher to work around the security certificate requirements, and more recently to address trimmed mappings.

Shawnsheridan is adamant that stock coding should always be done with esys alone. Personally I've never had an issue using launcher for stock coding, but in this case it ensured you were using 'Coding' as 'Coding NCD' wont work without launcher.
